Hello,
I (being in Germany) have a problem with a Linn dealer in the UK.
In short:
I have bought a pair of speakers that were shipped insured and were damaged in transit.
The dealer claimed the insurance for me as he was the party involved.
The problem is that he was only refunded the net value without VAT as he would reclaim the VAT through the standard VAT procedure in the UK.
Now he sent me the net insurance money but keeps the VAT (around 1.000 GBP) more or less stating that the reimbursement process would be so complicated (haha) and he would keep the 1.000 GBP for his troubles...
Is this a behaviour that a customer in the UK can expect from an official LINN dealer?
Regards
Jens
Not at all.
I've had dealings with quite a few UK Linn dealers over the years and although some are better than others, all have always behaved professionally.

Doesn't seem acceptable to me. You should definitely be expecting a full refund.
Were they new speakers or second hand? If second hand, there should have been no VAT anyway. If new, then he should be making the insurance claim and then sending you a new pair of speakers.
I have to ask why you were buying from a UK dealer though, as there are several German dealers listed on the Linn site.

Thank you for your view on this.
I bought all of my Linn equipment new in Germany from Linn dealers.
In this case it was a demo pair of Artikulat 320A in high gloss cherry that was offered on Ebay from this authorized Linn dealer in London. The price was very good, so I thought that I could go that route. Everything was perfect except TNT damaging one of the speakers resulting in a total loss as the price of these cabinets is actually higher than the price I paid for the speakers....

IMHO, not a relevant question.

Are you saying that the dealer insured them to the selling price and NOT to the true VALUE????
The dealer really made many mistakes here!!
Totally unacceptable.

Seconded!

Sorry, should have made myself clearer, and simply said that I think there is a greater risk of damage whilst shipping if going internationally, rather than simply loading into a van and driving up the road, and for that reason, the original poster might have been better off going for a dealer in Germany.

Yes, he did and that was agreed upon before the sale. Actually it would have been impossible to do so.
Anyway the problem is that he refuses to pay the VAT out of the insurance and that was something I did not expect. Before I bought them I checked on the Linn website that he is an official dealer and not some crook...
The only chance is that I get a lawyer in the UK and take him to court, but for 1.000 GBP?
I wonder whether Linn reads this and finds this acceptable towards a customer who spent close to 100.000 Euro on his HiFi system.

Hmmm...I'm not sure what the position is on ex-demo stock. As I said originally, if second-hand or refurbished, there should have been no VAT.
Either way, definitely should have been a full refund!
Good luck.
