hi there,
i have a friend over right now who is a top metal engineer.
was talking with him about the keel.
i just showed him a photo of it and told him the price of it.he laughed lol
he has offered to make one for free for one of you fellas.
i can post you it to try, keep it and give us some feed back on it.
problem is he needs some cad to make it.
some sort of drawing to program his computer at work i think he means,
if anyone knows where we can get the plans and pm me i can arrange for him to make the first one and give it to the person who can help us get this thing off the ground.
he rekons he can make them for 2 to 300 pound each no problem.
kind regards stan

If I've understood this correctly, you reckon your mate can produce a facsimile of the keel more cheaply than Linn sell it, but you need the drawings in order to do so? And you think someone on here should help you out?
May I suggest that you reflect on the ethics of your proposal, and consider why anybody of integrity might want nothing to do with you?
Are you taking the Michael Stan? Of course he need's the CAD plans - without them he is just another machine shop with some posh CAM machinery. However, the ownership of such plans is likely to belong to Linn and I don't see them rushing to give them away - you could always draw your own. To be honest the CAD plans for the Keel are not all that complex, even given the varying pocket depth and much of it can be gleaned from the pics Linn have posted. Most people with a basic understanding of CAD could draw up a pretty fair copy (I could bit I don't want one).
ok thanks.
first one to help will get a keel from us 100%..
someone out there has what he needs to do this.
i suppose we could buy one..we may do that if nothing comes of this search in a months time.
regards an excited stan

LOL...
... if you give me the source code of Microsoft Windows Vista, it will be no problem for me to code the Thorsten Vista OS
Do it from the scratch and you will stop laughing immediately.
It looks simple, but to get an improvement is another cup of tea. Believe me, I did it from the scratch, and I know what I'm talking about! Ours took 250 EUR each without construction and margins.
cheers
any tips for us then?
my friend actually makes parts for fighter jets and world rally cars..
did you buy one to copy it or rely on drawings?
Frankly Stan, If I were to produce the CAD plans I would expect more than a free Keel copy - at least a percentage of any profits made and a guarantee that I was not infringing any copyright.
Even if you buy one, you will still need someone to draw up the CAD files - machines don't run off good (or otherwise) intentions you know.

who rips off the drawings for these?

We are a group of engineers and we did it really from the scratch no copy! We started playing arround with several DIY subchassis before Keel and we only had some pictures.
If you calculate as a busines man the price will be at min 1000 pounds and you cannot sell it as a Linn part, otherwise Linns lawers will contact you due to copyright issues.
And sorry, no tips
cheers
I can understand what folk think of Linn charging almost £2k for the Keel but being a fairly large firm with significant overheads they have to recoup their investment somehow. Design and development takes time and is not cheap.
I make the Sole sub-chassis for older LP12's so I know how much effort goes into making something of worth. Linn have far higher overheads than I but even I did not blatantly copy their brainchild but designed a sub-chassis of my own. I will not be taking sales from Linn because my offering is low cost even though performance is very good. My aim is to keep as many LP12's out there as is possible: it is an icon after all
I'm very sorry, but I think your question and proposal is immoral.
