I currently have twonky 4.4.4 pre installed on a qnap 409. I want to update twonky so I can get album art, but because it's pre installed on my nas I will have to do a 'system update' from the qnap site.

As I am happy with everything else on the qnap it seems a lot of hassle just to upgrade twonky. Just wanted to know if anyone has done the system update and how succesful it was? Have any mac users tried it?

Cheers

Hi

I thought TM 4.4.4 worked with album art so maybe you don't need to change it? TM 4.4.9 will give you the Shoutcast option back but it has issues with premade playlists (I don't use them anyway).

You can get shoutcast to work with 4.4.x (I use 4.4.6 and this trick worked) but you'd have to get another Qnap owner to email you the appropriate file. I'm not sure if Qnap uses the same species of Linux (Debian) as Netgear; if it does, the files I have would possibly work. A lot more hassle than simply updating your NAS (unless you wish to use premade playlists) but it is another option to get Shoutcast working.

Like you I had a QNAP with twonky 4.4.4. I have now upgraded the firmware which took Twonky 4.4.6 and the whole process was painless. This now gives me album art.

I have just checked the QNAP download options it now shows the upgrade includes Twonky 4.4.9. I probably will not upgrade to 4.4.9 at present as everything is working fine.

You can select the firware update you want:

PS I also use the QNAP for streaming video and images to my PS3.
Qnap system update done. fairly straightforward . I now have twonky 4.4.9, but still no artwork. I know it's in there because I can view it in qmultimedia.

It would be helpful if there was a section in the ds forum with screenshots of all the different stages of setup, Twonky, NAS, gui, config, etc. etc. so that those of you with the knowledge can help us computer phobics. One unchecked box can cause a lot of frustration.

Ds is a great sound, but I would hate to think how many hours i've sat in front of this computer screen. ( maybe if I learned to type it would help!!).

Hi

I have a powerpoint showing the various steps and the results on the GUI. I'm just revising it to better suite KinskyPDA and I have to sort out the bit about setting up networs but it is available anytime. Planning to put it on the docs site as a PDF but I've just not had time to tidy it up enough. If you wish a copy, send me a PM with your email address and I'll reply with it as an attachment.

Also see some notes here and here about why album art might now be showing.

Paul,

how do you hold your album artwork? For it to work with Twonky the artwork needs to a jpeg file called Folder.jpg (the capital F is important). Twonky also has a limit of 100 art files per "container".

Paul,

Do you want to view your artwork - I have a TS409 with version 4.4 of TwonkyMedia and can see artwork on most of my 500 CDs. I do this via MediaMonkey. Get the free version, Scan import/scan) your info into the library from the NAS (you can select the path). If you then click on properties for an album or track you can see the artwork in the artwork tab - both in the Tag & as as separate jpg file.
