Does anyone know if the 3K array is different between this two models? Thanks.
AFIAK 3K Array in Klimaxes is somewhere mentioned as extended 3K Array.
In the current range, I believe there is only one 3K array used.

No,

There 3K arrays are different - they may look the same but different arrays are different characteristics. I don't know if this is just closer tolerances but I do know that they are not interchangeable (You can physically do it but they won'f sound the same)

At one time when I thought I needed 242 replacements, I was led to believe the one group was a subset of the other: they were selected out in a kind of QA process to find those with tighter tolerances/better matched pairs. This could just be spin for all I know.
Thanks for the info.

Hi there. Great system but the speakers are new to me? Any pictures?

Regarding your question, do you consider getting linn speakers?

Are you referring to my Aerial 10Ts? Here is a pic of them - http://pic5.audiogon.com/i/c/f/1226867312.jpg

I am thinking about getting a pair of 242s. I also have a dealer in my area that has some used Artikulat 320As that I listened to this weekend. Very nice but I am so used to a full range speaker that I do not know if I can live with the 320As until I can get a sub.

Back in the day this was the case, though I guess SteveC means a QC process.
To get over the whole QC and selection issue we spent about 3 years working with our suppliers to get more consistent supply of 3K array. This work culminated with the Akurate update and the launch of the Klimax loudspeaker range. Now both Akurate and Klimax use the same arrays.
Regarding interchanging of arrays between Akurate and Klimax, this can be done but we do not recommend it. When building Klimax speakers we have the ability to 'fine tune' the array performance with the amplifier and aktiv cards to get the best stereo match. You really need to know what you are doing if this tweaking is going to result in improved performance, which is why we don't recommend that you do it at home. But be in no doubt, all new arrays are closely matched; we just have the opportunity to make things better in the Klimax speakers.

I will leave that to our turntable engineers...

Hope this helps explain things

How is this fine tuning performed?
Not possible to tune the 3K, so I guess you do it in the amp/filter side correct?
OR...do you use many 3K's, amps, filters and test different combinations until you found a good match between all three?
