Hi, by the way

Nice forum!
So, Keilidh + Kitten =
1 Torn speaker grill
1 Slightly perforated bass driver
1 annoyed owner
Now, does anyone know anywhere I can get a replacement driver!?
I'm about to cry..

More importantly....will the wife miss the cat?

now he's got my centrik......
for the love of... . . .. good grief.
think that I need a water pistol or something.
How do the rest of the forum cope with their pets getting at their speakers??

Hi,
I know this story so well and I know just how you feel.
Back in 1993 I got some new Keildh's. A few months later we bought a kitten. He went mad over the keildh's and seemed to view them as giant scratching posts. One evening I fell asleep and woke to to find him with his claw stuck in one of the bass cones. Just like you I had a perforated cone right in the middle. The grills survived and I was too embarrased to approach my dealer for a repair. However, I couldn't see any difference in sound quality so I stuck with them. The only way to keep the cat away was to use the boxes as covers when the speakers were not being used. These were perfect, though ugly. However, I always cringed when visitors asked me if the boxes impaired the sound quality.
I kept them for 9 years and finally sold them on ebay. The guy who bought them already had a pair and he tested them and said they sounded identical despite the damage.
I now have a pair of Ninka's, these are ideal because of the metal grills, but I still use the boxes just in case.
I hope this helps.

Well, I've found that removing the mesh also removes all wanting from scratching them!
I took off the grills from the Keildhs and the centrik, and he's barely touched them since. However, he started playing with my rear speakers - a pair of Index II's. Took their grills off, and that seems to have done the trick too. Polishing them with Citrus Mr Sheen helps too!
I will admit, there is no difference in sound yet, however I've not really driven them hard. If I really kick them up with some heavy-er bass tracks then I'm just a little concerned that the rubber will start to split more.
I've set my amp so that bass is directed to my sub for now. Just in case.
Been told that the drives to replace them will cost about £45, so not the end of the world I suppose.

Many years ago when I purchased my first LP12, I also snagged a pair of Vandersteen 2Cs. The day after bringing the Steens home I walked in the door to fine Cookie (a Persian) hanging on to the right speaker, about 3/4 the way up, with his head poking out from the left side with a "thanks for the cool scratching posts" expression. In the firmest stern voice I could muster, I exclaimed "Cookie NO!" He never touched a speaker again but he did love to steal the sweet spot when an analog source was playing.
