Hello

a few older model solos are on ebay - would 2x 4200 aktiv to 212 speakers be better than passive solos

I connect with xlr from DS to Kisto and xlr to a single 4200 at present and intend (one day) to move to fully aktiv, but the amount of cables puts me off (a lot)

212 are a big as my room can take for speaker size - tried 320a but looked to large for the room. -neat option - sounded great - wife almost left, (will have to try larger speaker)

which is better - anyone tried?

in my system Akurate 212 + 1 x 221.

I had used several amplifiers

Exotik - 2250
Exotk - 2200
Exotik - Klimax Chakra Twin
Klimax Kontrol - Klimax Chakra Twin
Klimax Kontrol - Klimax Chakra Twin (bi-amping)
Klimax Kontrol - Klimax Solos
Klimax Kontrol (upgrade) - Klimax Solos

I only have expierence with an activ Akurate system (242 + 2 x 221, 1 x 4200 + 2 x 3200) at the high end in Munich 2007. My opinion: "It did not sound good". At this time I had prevered my system with Klimax Kontrol - Klimax Chakra Twin.

I think if you have a better amplifier you will get something which you will not get with an activ system (of course also in the other way). I think if you make a system actic you will get more details and it will be a technical improvement. If you use the better amplifier also the emotional side will grow. For me an important think.

So I bought the Solos and now I do not think a moment of going active. I get so closed to the music like never before.

An activ ist not cheap. For the same amount of money you will get also the better amplifier. The Solos look better.

And the last you will need much more space for the boxes.

But now some completion. I do not know the differences between Akurate 212 old and new one and Klimax Solos old and new one (I think they have changed a little bit a few years ago).

What do you think about the Kontrol Upgrade? Is it as significant as Exotik -> KK (old)?

the changing from Exotik to KK was absolutly necessary (Exotik - 2200 were working good together) because the amplifier and the Akurate show the "poorness" of the Exotik.

The Kontrol upgrade is not important in this way, because the KK (old) doesn't make signifikant mistakes.

It is important in another way.
With the KK-uprgrade I am able to listen to every musican out of the whole but music gets a better unity. It is easier to follow the rhythm. It is less strenous to follow the music. I get able to except the music as it is. I am free of any expectation how it has to be.
I have the feeling that I have arrived at the music.

Theirfore this upgrade was important to get closer to the music than removing mistakes.

I went from klimax kontrol with 212s activ with 2 4200 to passive with klimax chakra twin and prefer the better amp passive. I now have new mk3 242s and always thought I'd need solos to drive them properly..I love my setup and the twin is a freakin great amp often quickly overshadowed by the solos

Active have merits as well as passive with a better amp have OTHER merits.
As I never heard a passive system that is as musical as an active - my wote is active.
Only YOU can decide what you prefer!

Solo is the best amp so with a good source/pre that system going to make ANY speaker sounding great.
