I have seen a few people reference a mk3 version of the 242s but I have only heard of one upgrade done to them.

If I bought new 242s today, what version would I get; mk2 or mk3?
Mk3. Look out for the serial number, see here:

Do you know what changes were made in each version and the date when each version became available? Thanks.

Mk3 was made available in January 2008.

The changes were: a new bass reflex channel, new drivers, new crossovers (aktiv and passive) and (I think) an improved array as well. So virtually everything has changed. Smile

I don't have any information about mk1->mk2.

Thanks again.

This is getting off my original topic, but I was thinking about getting the 242s and running them partial aktiv. Based on you knowledge would it be best to you the 3K array or bass aktiv?

Which amps would you use? Solos? You would have to get Klimax Crossovers.

I have never tried or heard a partially aktiv system, but I'm not sure if it makes sense. Others who tried it told me that you should not mix Solos with inferior amps. The overall result will be less musical. Therefore, unless your goal is aktive on 10 Solos, I would rather keep it passive and use 1 or 2 pairs of Solos (one on the array and one on the bass drivers, you could also try one on the super tweeter and one on the rest, that's what my dealer recommends).
