Just wondering if anyone has tried this? We need to get it below our screen hight and I am concerned about the affect on sound quality.

I got my 225 stand shortened considerably, such that the tubular piece is now approx 18cm long. The threads for the bolts obviously needed to be re-tapped in at one end as well. A local engineering firm did it for me.
As for a drop in SQ, can't really comment, as I had no choice whatsoever so the job was done before I ever used the speaker. Sounds great though!
I never did get the stand for that exact reason, plus I have to accommodate the centre and active stereo amps in the middle, so I have it on top of a Quadraspire QAV bench, which is veneered board, alu legs but glass top, the spkr resting on several halved squashed balls. Behind (on the front walll I also have some reticulated foam to kill first reflections from the stereo spkrs.
I can only say that it is a lot better than a Trikan or Ekwal were in the same position. It really is the minimum standard to go with 242s, IMHO. Any less and a phantom is better (if you can stand being stuck to the middle). It doesn't sound quite as good as the 242s, which I agree could be because it is a bit nearer the floor. It don't give it much thought these days - meaning it is good enough.
The top is exactly 820 mm off the floor on a three-shelf QAV. I can just fit a 110"-diagonal screen over it (about 2.4 m width, IIRC). ANother alternative to you problem might be to get a perforated screen, but I just didn't fancy that. Perhaps in return you could tell us exactly how high yours is on the stand, so that I and others can work out if it would actually fit? (Might just simplify to three Solos one day and move the rack - ha!)
