Hi All,

Just ordered an ADS so getting prepared for the new babys arrival. I have a home network with a Buffalo LS-250GL connected (you can find it at http://site2.buffalotech.com/support/downloads2.php ). I see on the Twonky site that the Linkstation Pro range is supported but I somehow doubt this particular model is supported as it is quite old. I am scared of throwing the Twonky instal at the drive for fear of loosing lots of data! Can anyone confirm for me whether this particular model is supported? If not what is the current thinking on the best NAS to use?

Thanks
Dave
Suggest you look at this thread:

http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/vie...=39&t=2999

I have a LS-250GL and installed Twonky 4.4.5 on it with no problems - but it seems the later versions of Twonky have some issues.

The install was simple enough - but i'd recommend you backup your linkstation first - USB drives are so cheap these days - worth it for peace of mind....
Thanks Major, That was really helpfull. I now have vs 4.4.17 installed but as you suggested it is not working properly - other people on various forums have highlighted the same problems. I would prefer to go to vs 4.4.5 at your suggestion but it does not seem to be available for download anywhere. Could I be cheeky and ask if you have a copy that you could send me?
Also (dumb question) but do I need to purchase a licence for this and if so does it give 30 day trial like the PC version?

Thanks again for your help

Hi

The earliest one I've seen on the PV site is 4.4.11. If you want to try 4.4.11, it's available here: http://www.twonkyforum.com/unsupported/4.4.11/

There's some info worth looking at here: http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6031

The bit I noticed was about 3/4 way down 'GREAT ! Now it´s running perfectly ! It´s the easy trick to keep the PCast running. '

Bri
Brian,

The problem with 4.4.17 was more fundamental than that - Twonky server simply didnt start! However by a bit of googling I have found 4.4.6 (its on the twonky site if you know the filename) and installed this and it seems to work so far - It finds FLAC's and PlugPlayer finds it but cant test actual music production till the ADS arrives. But thanks for your help.

Will I be able to get album art working with this version? What about Shoutcast (whatever that is)? I shall be reading the forums for the next few nights to improve my knowledge in this area - when I am not running ethernet cables!

Thanks once again to all the Forum for helping me find a solution - I do hope I havent spoken too soon!

Dave
Hi

I was updating my post while you were responding; I have now put an additional link above (re 4.4.11 and Linkstation) which might help.

Great to hear you have 446 though! I'd stick with that for now as it seems the easiest option. Shoutcast is the internet radio feed (to be honest, I never listen to it anyway).

Album art should be okay as long as you save them as Folder.jpg in each album directory (and don't have any other pictures in the same directory as the album's FLAC files).

Also avoid ampersands and apostrophes in the directory path names as that upsets the album art in TMS4. This means change things like /music/artists/B52's to /music/artists/B52s (same with removing & from the path names)

There are other posts about album art and Twonky on the forum (some by me) which give fuller details of art issues and TMS 4, however, as long as you stick to the above rules, most art should show okay.

Bri
Brian,

Thanks again. I had seen this link myself - unfortunately the last post is important for me as mine is not the 'live' version but the 'Pro' version so I dont have PCast (dont even know what it is). Since I work on the principle 'if it aint broke dont fix it' I will stick with 4.4.6 now it appears to be working!

Dave
Ha ha; simultaneous typing again!

I'd agree; stick with the one that works! I have updated my above post with some art tips.

Bri
Had a look for 4.4.5 on my PC but can't find it anywhere sorry...(never was very organised).

Have found the install for 4.4.6 though - but obviously you already have this !

Regarding a license - yes you'll need to buy one - I can't quite remember if the DS worked with the 30 day trial version - I have a feeling it didn't. but hey its only 20 euros.

Enjoy your DS when it arrives!
DS Should work with 30 day trial version, well, it will work for 30 days anyway! Smile
