...in 24/192 and running the resultant file through their DS? If so, how good does it sound?
Mick.
PS You can tell I'm working nights and drinking too much coffee, can't you?
Since I'm going to be in 'Marital-Fatherhood Vacations' for a month I'm going to do it. I've already got an ADS Tech Instant Music RCA-to-USB converter and Audacity installed on my notebook.
Will let you know if it was possible to record at 24/192, but I doubt it (maybe 24bits/48k the most...)

I've been doing needle drops from my LP12 at 24/48 for some time, using the Audigy sound card on my PC. I used then to burn the resultant files to CD, they now go straight to my NAS.
The results are very good, hardly distiguishable from the LP12.

i'm also interrested in this subject. tried ripping via kisto digital out/in in my macbook, but the results are not really satisfying or at least have "production state". have to try with bitrate and resolution. maybe a hardware based recording equiment like korg mr1 or mr1000 or rme fireface 400 are better?

Well, I did a test last night with my ADS Tech 'Instant Music' RCA-to-USB converter. After spending more than an hour trying to figure out why it was not working I found that the RCA cables were connected to the wrong sockets on the preamp!!! Doh!!!
Well, problem sorted out I installed ASIO4ALL to check if Audacity was compatible but no luck.

Anyway ASIO4ALL reported that my RCA-to-USB converter supported up to 16bit/48khz so I configured Audacity accordingly. Did a short test by recording one song from Jean-Luc Ponty's 'Mystical Adventures' album that resulted in a 30MB 16-bit PCM WAV file. After converting to FLAC using default compression (5) via dbPoweramp the resulting file was 19MB in size. Tagged it manually using MP3TAG and copied it over to my NAS drive. After a directory rescan the song showed up on my N800 (Leia DS), selected it and voilá!!!
It turned out to sound a lot better than I expected, in fact it was really hard to determine any differences at all!!! It was only one song, so some Audacity tweaking needs to be done prior to commiting who knows how many months to rip my LP's!!!
I did a Google search for a higher resolution 2-channel RCA-USB ADC converter and found one from Edirol (24/192). Has anyone tried it!!! I'm tempted!!!

Vic - which model was this? It sounds the business if it does 24/192!
Mick.
My mistake.....
It's 24/96 (Edirol UA-1EX).

Anyone that compared with 24/196?
Recording companies used to use 24/96, are they now using 24/196?
