When copying files from XP laptop to my NAS drive, sometimes I keep getting this error.
Any thoughts.

This means that your network connection between the laptop and the NAS has dropped out. Sadly windows does not seem to recover gracefully when this occurs during file copies, even if only momentarily - it abandons the rest of the copy operation. For most other operations a momentary network drop-out will not be noticed
If you are using a wireless network connection, then try running wired for doing the copying.

I have had this problem too - and spent many unhappy hours trying to figure out what to do. I am not an expert on windows or networks but when you put this error into Google you get a huge number of hits; it seems to be a windows problem which has been around for years.
My own way around it is to mount the NAS drive through its IP address rather than opening it via 'My Computer'. I have a QNAP drive. The QNAP finder program has an option 'Connect > open in file explorer'. Once I do this I get to see the NAS drive and its contents just the same as if I try and access them through 'My Computer'. But the difference is that I can drag and drop files from my PC hard disk to the NAS drive without any errors.
Not sure if this will work for anyone else, but I mention it just in case it helps...

I use TeraCopy which makes copying files over a network less of a nail biting experience - http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php
It replaces Windows Explorer copy, validates copied files, gives good progress and error reports, and generally provides a level of confidence windows fails to provide on its own.

You can also FTP the files to your NAS using something like Filezilla ( free). It will correct dropped packets and lost connections.

Good to know.
Since using TeraCopy, all has been good. Only twice has a file or two (out of several hundred) gone wrong and needed the Restart button to be pressed.
