Full Version: Kinsky for mac freezes

Hi

I thought I would report this error, I am running the latest version of Kinsky on my macbook.

When my Akurate DS is configured with my Akurate control Kinsky freezes after a few seconds, first the volume fades and then it just locks. If I configure the DS without the preamp (so that no volume or source controls are visible on kinsky) Kinsky works without any issues.

I am running the latest versions of all software. Mac firewall is set to allow all connections.

Running the Linn GUI from my PC in another room does not have any issues in any config.

Any ideas?
It looks like Kontrol have problems with sending data to DS by RS232.
Borrowed another macbook and this works great with kinsky. I can have the two macbooks side by side, Firewalls setup to accept everything, my macbook freezes but the other one works without issue.

This only happens when the akurate control is connected, if I disconnect it using linn config both kinsky/macbooks work.

Does this help diagnose anything?

Hi,

Could you check the Network settings in both macbooks please and report back with that info? Also, what OSX version are you running, and what version Kinsky do you use (v1.0.2)?

It always helps having some of the basic sys info and app versions stated when you need help trouble shooting.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Foz

With the Akurate Kontrol connected (in LinnConfig), but with the RS232 cable link removed, does the problem still occur ?

With the Akurate Kontrol connected (in LinnConfig), but with the RS232 cable link removed the problem does not occur, kinsky does not stop responding and then crash. Off course I cannot change the volume or the source but no other issues.

Both macbooks have identical network settings with only airport connected.

Both macbooks are running OSX 10.5.5

Both macbooks are running the latest version of kinsky 1.4.0 but problem also occured with previous version.

The only differences between the macbooks are that mine is a later version with a
2.2 GHz Intel processor , the macbook that runs Kinsky without issue is a 2.0 GHz intel processor. Perhaps more significantly the firmware on the airport cards seems to be different.

Hope this helps

Hi Foz

If the problem disappears when you disconnect the RS232 cable, this suggests that RS232 traffic is a factor. I cannot explain why this is the case but I will look into it.

Thanks for your feedback.
