Hi all,

Although it may seem a minor point of interest to most people on the forum here, I am curious just what percentage of DS (and particularly Klimax DS) users use an Apple computer for the primary use in combination with their music system. So, I decided to put up a thread with a poll, and certainly would like the PC or Linux users to also use this poll. It may be beneficial for those developers working currently on an iPod Touch/iPhone or web browser based interface, to know what the percentages are and it may help in offering some compelling numbers of potential users of those applications.

Thanks in advance for taking part.

Chris
I have a KDS and am a Mac user.

I had to install Windows in BootCamp on the Mac to use config and also have to use the new GUI in Windows to play ALAC files following recent DS update as Kinsky for Mac will not play ALAC and DS software means EyeConnect no longer works as a upnp server.

Main system: LP12 (won't bore you with detail), KDS, CD12, Exotik Di, 2 x Chakra 3200, 1 x Chakra 4200, Aktiv Akurate 242.

Knekt system: R8S8, Pekin, Pure DAB, 4 x Apple Airport Express (family names on iTunes & RCU one with Wavelength Brick DAC) - 8 rooms, Roomamps in some rooms, Full Linn systems as local zones in some rooms. Apple TV / Mac Minis for video using Front Row served by 2TB NAS.
I sold my beloved Imac and bourgt a PC because im not a computer expert and getting my ds to work with appel seemed way to complicated.

It won't be forever, should've kept the Mac and bought a little EEE PC just to run config and GUI, otherwise install XP in BootCamp on the Mac.

Proper Mac support WILL come I'm sure - it has to. People are switching daily and once you use OS X daily, going back isn't acceptable.

I am a Mac devotee and my first job was to convert a Tax program from PC to the MAC II back in 1987. And now 21 years later we still struggle to get developers to support Mac.

Guess what, throw up your hands and buy a Nokia N810 for $300 US and you will be happier than a pig in S____ Tongue
2 Windows Notebooks, 2 Windows PCs, and 1 Nokia N800 to control my Akurate DS, depending on where I'm sitting and what I'm doing.

Wink
Just to note that I updated the thread subject line from 'Klimax DS & ...' to 'Linn DS & ...'

I hope that this updated subject line doesn't cause any hiccups with the forum links in future, but thought it prudent to avoid putting off any DS users that have any other DS players than the Klimax! This poll is meant for EVERY DS user, not just Klimax owners. Wink

And I am rather surprised by the stats so far... even split between Apple & PC users after about 42 votes. This could get quite interesting indeed! The poll was set up to run for 90 days. So, people, please vote!

And as an aside to the forum moderators, maybe you could put this thread at the top of this forum like the Twonky thread? That may help the visibility during the next 90 days and make sure we get a truly representative sample.

Thanks again to all who voted so far.

Cheers
Chris
Hi all,

I'm considering getting the Akurate DS. However, I still need to convince my wife ;-)

We are using two Windows XP notebooks for work and an Apple MacBook Pro for fun. I'd really love to be able to control the Linn DS using an iPhone / iPod Touch or my MacBook Pro.

By the way, I run a lot of Windows software (e.g., Lotus Notes 8, Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007, Exact Audio Copy) on my Mac, using VMware Fusion and I can say I'm really happy with it. It is far more convenient than BootCamp since you don't need to reboot your computer once you want / need to use Windows software.

Cheers, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I am currently beta testing one of the control applications for the iPhone/iPod Touch, and while I can't say when it will be ready for release, or much else for that matter due to being a restricted beta program, here's the link to the developer's site. This will hopefully give you a bit more detail to look forward to, and some screen shots. If you like what you see, email Jason (the developer) with your details and I am sure he will follow it up as soon as he is ready for a wider beta program or when release is near.

SongBook iPhone/iPod application for Linn DS

Cheers
Chris

Hi all,

2 Notebooks with Windows XP,1 Nokia N810, 1 Macbook Pro, 1 Iphone 3G.

I´m switching from XP to Mac. Unfortunatedly you can use the Linn Config only via Windows...

Now I´m waiting for the Songbook applications to be ready ;-)
