RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2011-11-13 18:46

Hi

That's very curious. I've not used that option to list all an artists tune's for a long time (I normally use the albums) but I have fully tested it in earlier versions of Twonky and it was all okay. Unless there's something odd with the latest Twonky (which is always a possibility) I can't think how it would cause any problems, so it might be a Kinsky crash as opposed to an issue with the trees; I'll double-check a little later when I am back at home.

I assume it's 6.0.34 and the 'artists only' version of the tree that you're using; would that be correct?

Bri

Hi

I just tried the 'artist only' version of the trees on my test server (Twonky 6.0.37). I navigated to -Artists Albums- then Pink Floyd, then to -List Tunes- and it correctly showed 108 tracks sorted alphabetically.

I don't have that feature in the -Album Artists- container within the 'albumartst' trees (I must stick it in there; it would be a nice addition) but I do have it in the -Track Artists- container of that same tree, so I navigated to that one on my main NAS (Twonky 6.0.34) and it showed all 255 Pink Floyd tracks sorted alphabetically.

From the above, it looks like everything is working as expected, so it maybe points to a fluke crash in Kinsky Touch. Could you please try it again and let me know if the fault is repeatable (and also let me know if my assumptions on what you are using and in which menu it is happening are correct?

All the best
Bri

Actually, I've been pondering all this over a glass of wine (well, cheap plonk) and there is another possibility: Twonky now has an algorithm which hides duplicate tracks (where the track name and file size are identical) and I'm wondering of that's being tripped up by something in your tagging. It is used in the Twonky all tracks container - which is not shown in my version of the Advanced Default View - but the algorithm will likely be kicked off in that comtainer in my custom menu, too.

The easy way to test for that would be to select another artist and then try the -All Tracks- menu for that artist. If that works okay, then try it for the artist that actually caused the problem and see if it breaks things again. If it does, that will help point to something I can investigate.

Having a mostly "classical" collection of FLAC files, how would I set up the Twonky server on my NAS to be searchable for things like Conductor, Orchestra, etc.? Would this involve some different tree files?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi

Twonky 6 doesn't read these additional tags (so adding them to the trees wouldn't work). Twonky 7 is available, but I've not yet looked to see if there are any additional features. I'm not sure if SqueezeCenter can be made to pick up these tags, but I suspect it maybe can (SC now has a UPnP server bundled with it). I'd expect SC 7.7.0 (with the upnp) will be available for Qnaps sometime soon, but it would likely need custom trees to take full advantage of any additional capabilities it has (I'm not that familiar with it so can't say exactly what's possible).

Hi Briain
First thanks for all your work. I had twonky version 4. crash my netgear ready NAS NV+ and just got it back up to speed. You mentioned you were going to publish your custom trees for Twonky 6 for Ready Nas I can't find them. Did you ever do that? If not is there a good link on setting up Twonky 6?
Thanks

Basically, the latest ReadyNAS version is 6.0.34, which is stable and performs well. You can use the trees which Briain posts in the QNAP thread, and just copy them to the "views" folder in the "twonkymedia" share which will be created on your ReadyNAS.

I have another question, when my computer guy installed twonky 6 (super-poisson version 6.034) on my netgear ready nas NV+. twonky shows up in the installed add ons but not in streaming services IS THIS CORRECT or do I have to change something? In setting up twonky and the ready nas nv by some older directionsI got to the naming section which I can't even find. What do I do now? Yes my computing skills are very limited, I'm beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel but it's pretty hazy.
Thanks

db RIPPER doesn't see Ready NAS NV+. I'm in windows 7 when I look in "my computer" I see the NAS, but when I try to send music files to the NAS from the ripper or through teracopy the NAS does not show up in destinations on network? I really don't understand any ideas?
as always,
Thanks
