RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-02-20 14:50 Hi Looks like we were typing at the same time. That all sounds really strange and it implies there's maybe a more fundamental issue to be fixed (and that it's nothing to do with the Twonky QPKG). You could try changing the trees in the embedded 6.0.38 to get you going: [~] # cd /mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # ls advanced.view.xml ipodlike.view.xml simple.view.xml classified.view.xml mobile.view.xml view-definitions.xml folder.view.xml playlists.view.xml [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # rm * [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # ls [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # cp /share/Web/trees/* . [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # ls advanced.view.xml* ipodlike.view.xml* simple.view.xml* classified.view.xml* mobile.view.xml* view-definitions.xml* folder.view.xml* playlists.view.xml* [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # chmod +x * [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # ls advanced.view.xml* ipodlike.view.xml* simple.view.xml* classified.view.xml* mobile.view.xml* view-definitions.xml* folder.view.xml* playlists.view.xml* [/mnt/ext/opt/twonkymedia/resources/views] # By using the chmod +x, it might prevent them being overwritten with the standard ones when you re-boot it. If that gets you up and running for now, it would give time to ponder the next move (contacting Qnap support, or try reverting to the previous FW). Personally, I think you might have to contact support as this should not have happened. That said, if you have a current backup, you could try reverting to the previous FW and see what happens. It would be worth having a search of the Qnap forum to see if there are any other instances of that (or something similar) and if not, it would be worth contacting Qnap support. It's interesting that you mention there is also a permissions issue. I recently had a very funny issue with permissions where a set of folders were not visible in my mapped drive, but they were okay when using SSH access (even though all the permissions looked to be as I'd expect them to be). I tried changing them using Linux commands, but for some reason that didn't work. As I am extremely impatient - and I've several backups of my contents - I tried ticking the advanced permissions option and hitting the apply button (see below) and it rattled through the entire NAS share contents and reset everything; all is now working okay (I didn't do anything else to it other than ticking that box). I'm not suggesting this to be the correct solution to your issue (as I'm not sure what the problem is), but again, if you have at least one (preferably more) backups, you could afford to be a bit more adventurous with your experiments in the attempt to fix things without going down the Qnap support route. If you did get into a total mess, you could always totally reset the NAS and then reload the data from the backups. To be honest, I'd not reset and rebuild a NAS unless I had another NAS with all the data backed up (so I had a RAID protected backup to restore from) as opposed to just a single disk USB backup. My reasoning is that you could be extremely unlucky and the USB disk could fail (or have an unreadable section) and thus end up with a major problem (no music and months of re-ripping to do). I'd never rely on a single disk backup if I was trashing my main NAS (I do have a single disk backup, but that's just so I can store it off-site; just in case my house burns down). Can you provide a bit more detail on the above commands for an amateur? Are these commands that I am to execute in Putty? Your advanced trees are in folder on the NAS where directed in your post at the beginning of this thread. Given that I currently only have a single disc and not in RAID, are any of the commands going to be different? Any help would be great to make sure I am executing the commands properly in the right program. Thanks, Fei RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-02-21 10:48 Hi I'm no Linux guru myself; I only know enough to get me by! ![]() The tree changing process is very nearly identical to what you did when changing them in the QPKG version, but they are now going into a different place. The exact differences are that you first delete the existing ones (from the embedded version of Twonky), then copy the new ones over, and then there's an extra step to change their permissions (that's the 'chmod +x' bit). All that said, I'll separate the bits you need to actually type from the above screen dump example (and make small comments on what they are doing). Before I do that, let me check that the new 3.6.0 firmware doesn't automatically replace them again when you reboot the NAS. The steps shown above are a screen dump of me actually changing the trees in a TS-659, but I'm not using the embedded Twonky as I'm using the QPKG version. I'll have to disable that one, then enable the embedded Twonky, then reboot the TS-659 a couple of times to check they survive. I'll post back as soon as I can verify th above (things are pretty hectic today, but with a bit of luck, I might get a chance sometime this afternoon). Bri RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-02-21 16:46 Hi Fei I've had an email from Alex @ Qnap: Hi Briain, Please ask user to check the "File System Not Clean" issue by running the script below. It can help to identify the process which caused problem. How to track "File system is not clean" warning issue: http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=41484. Bri PS I'm testing the trees are retained in Qnap FW 3.6.0 and embedded Twonky 6.0.38 (I'll update this post in about 30 minutes). Edit: No, they get replaced by the ones from the firmware when you reboot the NAS, so we do have to get that QPKG version working. Bri RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Fei - 2012-02-23 13:25 Briain, Things are looking worse. I followed your link to track the file system not clean issue, however the NAS is unable to install the Optware QPKG software required to track the problem. I get the same failure message during the install as I got with the Twonky QPKG. I submitted a support request to QNAP on their website several days ago, and have yet to receive any response. Getting frustrated as the NAS is a brand new unit and worked fine for 1 week on firmware 3.5.2 and how is running into all kinds of problems on 3.6.0 and no one from QNAP is helping to troubleshoot the issue. You appear to have a better line into QNAP. Any help they and you can offer to troubleshoot this issue would be most appreciated, as it is extremely frustrating not to be able to access the music with your advanced trees on the Linn DS. Thanks, Fei _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Update: QNAP Skype technical support was able to troubleshoot the problem. It turned out to be a HDD I/O problem where after the firmware update it could not create a .qpkg directory. They fixed the error, created a .qpkg folder and now can successfully install Twonky and other QPKG files. That's great news that you have resolved the issue; I'll drop Alex an email and let him know you were sorted via VoIP (from what I've heard, I believe that is by far the best way to contact them for support). RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-02-24 01:05 That's way too easy, I prefer black text on a black background; that way, I'm totally oblivious to the catastrophic mistakes I'm making. I learned that cunning trick from from a chap called Zaphod Beeblbrox (who I met in a sun-glasses shop, somewhere near Beetlejuice)!
RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Lefreck - 2012-02-25 23:47 What are the benefits of Twonky 6.0.38 over 6.0.34? If I update (Twonky QPkg 6.0.24 on QNAP TS-439Pro), will I have to reinstall the custom trees? Being quite happy with 6.0.34, except for the "the"-handling and the "date"-issue, I only want to update if it makes any sense to me... |
