Fantastic news! I think I should maybe add a foot note about .qpkg being a 'hidden' folder to the initial post. Smile

Yes, that would be very helpful for linux noobs like me. Btw: i just found out my album artists are only tagged on 25% of my albums, the same goes for composer tags. So now i have a nice retagging job to do to take full benefit of your lists Tongue Anyway, your lists greatly improve the convenience of finding music, thank you for that. I also have the idea chorus ds has become faster, but i don't know if that's possible, maybe it can load less data at once because of the new filters?

Hi

Yes, I've now about 2500 albums and even though I could use Songbook or Chorus on the iPad without resorting to the alpha-grouped containers, I still find that they make navigation and selection a lot more convenient (and faster for the reason you mentioned). In addition, I like to use Songbook to browse albums in the large thumbnails view (three covers per column) and that removes the iThing A-Z 'shortcut' list on the right hand side, so if I wanted to play an album that begins with Z, I'd need to scroll through the lot to get there (whereas I prefer to just open the 'Z' container and get there more swiftly). It's a matter of personal taste, but the alpha-grouped versions of the trees give both options by having the -All- containers at the head of the A~Z ones.

Album Art

Incidentally, I've been on a project to try and get my art updated and I think 600 x 600 pixels is a good compromise (when you can find them at that size). You can get a lot of nice 600 pixel art from http://www.albumartexchange.com/ but most of them are jpg's with the compression set to minimum (that's the site policy). Jpg is a compressed format for pictures (in the same sense as mp3 is a compressed format for audio) but you can set the compression ratio over a wide range (in any half decent image editing software).

What that means in the real world is that many images on that site range between 250 KB and 600 KB which means they will slow things down quite a lot. If using that site for a source of art (and it is fantastic) then it's best to download them, and before actually using them, open them in an image editor (Paint Shop Pro Photo is a good and affordable one) and simply hit the save button. The default compression setting in PSP is 20 (the range is from 1 to 99) and 20 is a pretty good compromise for all this sort of stuff. What that means in the real world is that most images end up at about 120 KB to 180 KB (though a small few really 'busy' images could be 220 KB). On average, lets say you find many images at about 380 KB and reduce them to 152 KB then you have cut the file sizes to 40% of the ones on that site (with no visible difference on the iPad display). That means your NAS, wireless network and iPad have a lot less work to do and can thus load more images in the same time (it also keeps the NAS Twonky cache down).

It's worth having a think about that now as it'll help keep everything as efficient as possible whilst still giving you amazing quality art. Smile

Hi Briain,

regarding your album art project: How does Kinsky display the album art from twonky when you click on it and it goes full screen? On my system it looks horrible, always. Doing the same with identical cover scans on the asset server on my PC they look fine, just how they should.

Have you encountered this? (And maybe even a solution? Smile

Hi

If on Twonky 6, go into Twonky config page, select media receivers link, then set the one relating to your control point MAC/IP address to Linn Kinsky Desktop (or Chorus, or Songbook; it doesn't matter which one you pick). If you are unsure of the MAC/IP of your control point, simply set them all to that (I've a customised version of Twonky that just sets them all to that).

So, now's the moment to change from Twonky 4.4.17 to 6.0.33?

Hi

It depends on which control point(s) you are using. If using Songbook, Chorus, Konductoror or Bubble, then possibly yes, but if using Kinsky PDA, then definitely not (if using Kinsky Touch beta, also definitely not). Twonky have now identified the discovery problem (and fixed it today) but it's not in the 6.0.33 release as available on the Qnap forum; it will likely be released as a new version (6.0.34) after it has been fully tested.

If you are using Songbook, then the 6.0.33 (maybe with custom trees) is very good (I'm using it now) but if you wish to play extra-safe, I'd maybe wait a couple of weeks for the Qnap version of 6.0.34 to come out.

Hi Briain

I am going through the tutorial to get these trees up and running but my ignorance of linux is getting the better of me.
I extracted the trees to qmultimedia directory but when I go to copy the replacements it always fails.
How do you see all the linux files and directories from windows?

Thanks

Stewart

problem solved I think. Used a program called Winscp to navigate directories and drag and drop files.\

Could someone be so kind to post a custom tree like this:
