You can think of the Twonky menu items (containers) as being progressive filter stages, so navigating to the artist/album container first applies an artist filter (so you see all albums by the selected artist) then selecting the album puts a second filter to show only the tracks from that selected album. The same applies to the other containers like genre/composer/album (only in that one, three successive filters are applied). If we park the multiple tagging concept for the moment and consider the way Twonky works by instead considering the composer tag and assuming you own only a single album. The limitation with Twonky (in any field) is that the displayed results will only show tracks tagged with that field you have selected in the control point. By that, what I mean is that if you have that one album and half the tracks are tagged as 'Bach' and the other half are 'Beethoven', the results from clicking on Composer will show only two choices; Bach or Beethoven. The Back one will only show the Bach tracks (so you'll only see half the album) and the rest will appear under Beethoven. It's the same concept as using two album names for a single album, so if it were a double album, you could call it 'Bach and Beethoven Famous Tunes CD 1' and 'Bach and Beethoven Famous Tunes CD 2'. When you look in under albums, you'll see two albums (with half the tracks in each one). If you now consider the genre tag and assign half the tracks (from a single album) album as 'Choral' and the other half as 'Oratorio', you will get two genre entries; one being Choral and the other being Oratorio. Where genre is different is that you can add a common tag like Classical, so half would be tagged 'Classical,Choral' and the other half as 'Classical,Oratorio'. Doing that (for your one album) would give you three genre entries: Classical Choral Oratorio All of the tracks would appear in Classical Half of the above tracks would show in both Classical and Choral The other half would appear in both Classical and Oratorio What I can't quite get my head round is what you are seeing; are you saying that you see something like the below: Classical Choral Oratorio Choral That shouldn't happen as there should be no way to generate the container twice, unless the tagging contains a subtle difference. There are two typical ones which can generate double entries, but they aren't really double as the text is actually different. If you have tagged some as 'Classical,Choral' and others as 'Classical,Choral.' then you will get the below Classical Choral Choral. If you have tagged some as 'Classical,Choral' and others as 'Classical, Choral' then you will get the below: Choral Classical Choral Or am I still not getting what you mean? At the moment, I to list to A-Punk, I have to go: Tunes -> A -> List Tunes -> A-Punk Can I go: Tunes -> A -> A-Punk and skip the options usually under the letter 'sub directory'? RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-05-26 14:51 Hi Just replace the entire -Tunes- container with a really basic one like the below: <container name='-Tunes-' groupid='music/BriTunes' upnp:originalTrackNumber='6' class='object.container' createClass='object.item.audioItem.musicTrack'> <container buildon='dc:title[1]' class='object.container' createClass='object.item.audioItem.musicTrack'/> </container> Remember to change the sort order to the same number as in your existing -Tunes- container (the exact number depends on which of my trees that you have downloaded). In the above -Tunes- container, I've shown the sort order number in red. Incidentally, I actually quite like the existing one's album sub-container, not only for finding out on which albums any one tune appears (which I why I first designed it) but more because the option to list the tunes as containers (then albums) means it doesn't have to load art images for every tune in the list, so it can be a lot faster to navigate and scroll as it's not having to deal with loading artwork. That's something you'd lose by changing to the basic container as shown above. Note that if modifying trees, do not remove the basic Twonky containers below my custom ones; these are needed to enable Twonky to function correctly (and also for certain media players and CP's to work). I don't have a huge library at the moment, but when I do, I know how I can make it even better. Thanks again, Alex RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - golke53 - 2012-05-27 19:18 Brian, only thanks to your help I managed to install the Album/Artist tree. I had just gone through the nightmare of my (very special) networking setup which despite of not being a greenhorn in IT took me a week. When I then started to load my first FLACS onto my NAS I could not believe that my brandnew QNAP TS439 II Pro and preloaded Twonky did not allow me to access my music the way I was used to do it: pull the CD from the drawer, insert into my player and press "play". I thought this would be the very basic way of operating the DS, however remaining seated in my armchair. I am very thankful you posted this. It deserves a bag of 1+. RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-05-27 19:41 No worries; I'm glad it's of use! I bought my first DS in 2007 and really struggled with Twonky 4's massive limitations, then when Twonky 5 came out, I spent about a month trying to get the trees to work (there were no instructions in those days, so I just had to reverse engineer what Twonky had done, then experiment with what could then be done to better suit my own needs; all that with absolutely no idea about what I was actually doing). After getting it to work, I realised that there must be a lot of others who would probably like the experience that I was now enjoying when browsing, so thought it would be cool to share the tree via the relevant public forums (Linn, Twonky and Qnap). Of course, everyone has different requirements, so to catch all, I've now got the 4 tree pack options, so that's how it all evolved to where we are today. Bri

Your interpretation of my problem is correct, but so too is my understanding of what is supposed to happen; that there should be only one genre Choral. You have however identified some possible errors in my tagging so I shall check again. Meanwhile I have today just upgraded qpkg version to '39 and installed your 2012 AlbumArtist trees for large collection. Will get back to you in due course if I still have problem. Many thanks for the help btw. Thats another bottle of red I owe you! Budgie. RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - ReneZ - 2012-06-20 12:57 I fooled myself sometime ago as well. I think I left a space after a genre tag and suddenly I had two genres with the same name (at least that's how it looked). Checking the albums I had one in one of the two genres with a space as last character. Drove me nuts! RE: [How to] change Twonky 6 menus (trees) in the new Qnap QPKG (and on other NAS's) - Briain - 2012-06-20 14:33 I still occasionally do it (putting a space in after the comma is just too natural a typing action) so I'm often going back and sorting it out (and I'm also bad for typos in the genre field)!
