RE: What are your favourite film/music moments? - gumby - 2011-10-16 19:54 My favorite music moment is hard to decide but I think a couple standout for there influence on me as a young person. 1) Attending a live performance of Pictures at an Exhibition in Wiesbaden Germany. I was 15 or 16. Son of an American soldier stationed in Weisbaden. Our music teacher prepared us by having us listen in class. She explained the composition. Obviously a great introduction to symphonic music for the unitiated. The day of the concert was just an amazing event for me. I now have 6 recordings of this, including a piano version by Ashkenazy, which is very interesting. I also have subsequently purchased season tickets to the symphony for most of my adult life. 2) A performance of Le tombeau de Couperin by a neighbor of mine in college, and good friend. She studied piano performance and performed this for her masters thesis. She also performed in my home town at a local church and stayed at our home for the visit. The movements were apparently dedicated to Ravel's friends and always evoked a lot of emotion. We all went our separate ways shortly after this, but I never stopped listening to this. We exchanged some letters for a couple of years but contact then ceased. It is now 30 years later. The only recording I've heard since that matches my memory of this, and elicits the emotions, is Artur Pizzaro's. After acquiring this recording from LINN last year and listening to it, I initiated contact and we are back in touch. RE: What are your favourite film/music moments? - Paulssurround - 2011-11-12 06:54 I loved the whole film" Across The Universe", with so many memorable scenes, set to Beatles music. The scene with TV Carpio singing, with this great choreography behind her, on the football field. The scene where Luke goes to report for duty to Uncle Sam is Priceless. The whole film "Rocky Horror Picture Show" Absolute classic! The movie "Ray" had some great scenes and so much great music. I loved the movie Walk The Line, especially the scenes with the main characters playing on stage The music in many of the James Bond films made the movie, otherwise I don't think the movies would have been as good without the music chosen Great sound track from Forest Gump RE: What are your favourite film/music moments? - Macbeth - 2011-11-15 10:41 65 Days of Static have just released a re-score of the film Silent Running on FLAC and LP although the LP was on limited release and has sold out already. Listened to it last night and love it. It's a combination of piano, drums and guitars mixed with industrial electronics. But my favourite film score is Friday Night Lights. All the music is performed by Explosions in the Sky.
