RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-28 19:42 Look what the cat brought in today! I have never seen a stack of Cocobolo like this. Usually it is small boards. These average 8' and are 2" thick (50mm) Cocobolo has been difficult to find in quantity, and is very expensive. It looks like these boards came from two different sources. This was the private stash of a wood dealer. I have opened up another board of the stuff to the right, it looks fairly close to some Brazilian Rosewood This is what the wood looks like when it arrives at the shop. Come Winter, the first plinths from this wood should be shaping up..
RE: Woodsong Plinths - Tony Tune-age - 2011-07-28 20:02 You must have a very skilled cat... . Great looking lumber too... .
RE: Woodsong Plinths - mazort - 2011-07-29 01:33 Mama Coco - Gino Vanelli RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-29 20:12 And what the cat brought in today!!! (usually it is just birds and mice, stuff like that) ![]() ![]() Yes, today is a good day! First impression of the Rubikon is very good! I like the feel. Very high quality. Looking forward to building this into a new deck. Excellent job Andrew and Mark! RE: Woodsong Plinths - Cymbiosis - 2011-07-29 20:55 (2011-07-29 20:12)Chris H Wrote: Did the cat maul the box as well? There are some big cats in your neck of the woods.... Also bears I believe! Anyway, it looks like the new packaging did the job...... but only just! additional protection is required if being shipped singly IMHO.Andrew will need to come up with something. KR Peter RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-29 21:11 Yes, having this packaging inside another box is essential.. and we do have Black Bears here, see them somewhat regularly. RE: Woodsong Plinths - flatpopely - 2011-07-29 22:36 Outer packing will be used, I just needed to get these out ASAP. I hope you like it Chris. Andrew. RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-29 23:09 Actually the Rubikon traveled well, it is surrounded by foam. I do like to keep my boxes pristine though... RE: Woodsong Plinths - ThomasOK - 2011-07-30 00:27 I keep trying to convince European manufacturers that we have trained gorillas staffing out shipping companies in the US but they never tend to believe it until they see a couple of examples like this. Believe me it can be much worse. When I worked for the Linn importer in the mid 1980s we had to have Linn TRIPLE box the Isobariks to keep them safe from damage. Linn balked at the idea of needing that much packaging so we had to pay for the third box for the US market. But it reduced our damaged speakers dramatically so it was worth it.
RE: Woodsong Plinths - YNWaN - 2011-07-30 09:09 In future, deliveries will be double boxed. The whole chassis is encased in a block of foam though, custom cut to fit the Rubikon, so I hope all has arrived OK. Chris, Thomas, I hope you enjoy chaps .Please keep me informed with your findings - any issues/questions, just drop me a PM. |
