RE: Woodsong Plinths - Irri - 2011-09-05 19:47 There are gamma issues with different browsers, but it's usually a Mac problem with them using 1.8 instead of 2.2. On my computer, the firefox browser is accurate, IE is not. Wonder why? Any of you photographers have an answer? Yes, I calibrate my monitors... Hi Chris, I believe Firefox can read embedded ICC profiles in the jpegs, and can differentiate if the photos are tagged with Adobe RGB/sRGB/ProPhoto RGB color profiles and the like. I believe IE doesn't read embedded ICC profiles so thinks everything is in sRGB... Anyways, was curious myself, did some online sleuthing, and here's the Wikipedia entry on color management: << Internet Explorer 9 is the first Microsoft browser to partly support ICC profiles, but it does not render images correctly according to the Windows ICC settings (it only converts non-sRGB images to the sRGB profile) and therefore provides no real color management at all. As of 2011, Google Chrome does not support color management by default. >> So that probably explains why your images in IE don't look right? Hope that helps! RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-09-05 20:52 I was wondering if it had something to do with that.... I do generally export web jpegs as sRGB, as I believe that is the standard color space of the web (correct? or not?) I work in ProPhoto RGB generally. That last photo was exported in sRGB. I had also wondered if it had to do only with a browser setting on my computer, not reading my monitor profiles. I work in ProPhoto RGB generally. Yup, sRGB is the de facto standard for images on the web. The downside to sRGB is that is has the narrowest gamut compared to Adobe and ProPhoto RGB, ProPhoto being the widest I believe. I haven't used the ProPhoto profile much. My gear is set to shoot Adobe RGB, and when I'm editing photos of other photogs on the desk, we default to the same (though we have some stringers still shooting in sRGB - in which case converting that to Adobe RGB doesn't mean you gain a wider gamut; it remains the same). Of course if you shoot raw you can always apply a color profile while processing the file. Anyways, I digress... RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-09-05 22:22 Yes, ProPhoto is the widest by far. ProPhoto is the native color space used in Lightroom. I only shoot in RAW, unless on a camera phone... look forward to camera phones that shoot in RAW... RE: Woodsong Plinths - Irri - 2011-09-06 11:30 Nearly all computer monitors are sRGB so it's sort of pointless to export to anything with a wider gamut if it will be looked at on a monitor. RE: Woodsong Plinths - iainrob - 2011-09-06 15:53 Gregg any pics of your new titans just for a quick drool? Deck looks superb by the way!
