RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-04 15:51 Hi, thanks. And as Tony says, the potential for upgrade too. Chris. The photo was taken using a Lensbaby HM
I have been curious about the Lensbaby.. I like that pic. What camera/ lens are you using? RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-04 15:58 For touching up the plinth, minor touch ups could be made with a black marker, the next step up finding a black paint with a similar sheen, and carefully applying it, only to the missing areas. Use your fingers to wipe to exactly where you want the paint to be. Next up in quality, give it a light sand, being careful to not burn through the corners, then repaint it black (spray) Your 'mileage' will vary according to the quality of paint work, so use caution.. The first time my dealer showed me one of your plinths I immediately wanted it and that's what I have on my LP12. The plinth is very classy-looking and my dealer liked it so much he has the same on his LP12 I believe. Well it just speaks to the level of tastefulness and judgment you bring to the activity which is rare in the extreme. I'm going to quit fawning now but did want to take this opportunity to encourage you on the path you're on. Black satin polished laminated Lignum Vitae anybody?
At first light the plinth reminded me of a Garrard Sp125 with it's two tone looks, very similar in dimensions of which I also thought looked like a very smart deck but this does things for the Sondek almost beyond words RE: Woodsong Plinths - ToneDeff - 2011-07-05 16:05 (2011-07-05 14:30)eye-fi Wrote: ....... but this does things for the Sondek almost beyond words Yep, can't believe how big it makes it ........ the record doesn't even fit the platter anymore. ![]() Great looking plinth. RE: Woodsong Plinths - Chris H - 2011-07-05 16:46 Good to hear that someone else likes Lignum Vitae. I have had difficulty walking past that bin on a number of occasions, but have been successful so far due to the difficulty in obtaining a strong glue joint with that wood. It's waxy, resinous nature are why it has been used for bearings for centuries. It can still be found as the drive shaft bearing/ seal on many boats. Also, it is gorgeous stuff. If I could figure out a way to use it safely in a plinth, I would. |
