Cheers!

You'll be wanting an olde church pew or door then!

Joe Silva and I spotted some nice Oak in the vaults of Warwick Cathedral last year, but thought better of it......Big Grin It's a beautiful wood.

There's a fair amount spare in the roof of the Scottish Parliament building - no wonder it was over budget. But maybe it sounds better?
Better add a smiley :-)

Well, there are lots of places that sell "reclaimed oak" flooring, beams and church pews. I guess that they'd be stable by now, but you'd need to cut them up then put them through a profiler to get something usable for your needs...

Lignum vitae, anyone? Smile

There is something special, calming and reassuring, about antique Oak. Didn't Nottingham Audio make a TT with an antique oak plinth using wood pulled from an old house, or at least that was the story ?

I would love a plinth in Laburnum since it is a beautiful deep purplish colour. The trouble is that Laburnum rarely grows much heartwood. Sad

Now Lignum Vitae, that would be cool!

I know!! Chris would probably have to retool after working on it and would have to consider if he even wants to work on it. I'm trying to get a line on some boards and seeing if I can call in a favour or so. But...to echo you, ma'am, that would be cool!

PS: Check your PM.

Actually the main problem presented with Lignum Vitae is that it does not really like adhesives of any sort that I know of. Very cool wood though.. I do know where to get that. Just picked up a gorgeous Maple burl, by far the best I have seen. I just spent the last hour bringing it to milling dimensions, and slice it into veneers. About half way through I realized that it would be one of the rare burl boards that could actually make an LP12 plinth, so I decided to sleep on it. Probably cut it into veneers, as more mileage can be had that way...

Also contemplating something bordering on heresy for some... using some blue Paua shell as an inlay strip, maybe in a curly Koa plinth. Serious bling! I would personally like something like that....

Yes, I think an old door would be a good source, as the wood selected for doors is generally a higher grade. Wouldn't want to butcher a cool old door though.. Just remembered about Bog Oak too... Yes, looking for some old English oak....

Chris, Any news you can share on your prototype turntable wall shelf?
