Eddie, I don't think you can go wrong especially as Richer sounds has a returns policy in case you're not happy. But I reckon you will be.

Best to get the Sara's out in the rear surround position.!

Can't wait to hear it and your active Briks.

When I come down I'll bring my Cd player and my Phillips BluRay for comparison.

If it can better the Naim CDS I will be flabbergasted, but as long as it isn't trampled on, I will be pleased. The Philips is no slouch either, so a tough shoot out indeed.

Hi Dr Eddie, I decided today would be a good day to dismantle my Sara's. you may remember I bought mine incredibly cheap as they looked a bit rough and had been in a store room at my local hifi dealer for god knows how long. No guarantee to whether they worked or not.

It turned out that both tweeters were blown so I replaced them with the newer versions and still nothing.

Well I took them apart today and I now know why the tweeters were no longer working.

All four boards have a blown capacitor in the same place.

Ouch!!Sad

Well at least I have made a start. I will keep the crossovers external as I may go active later.Big Grin

Anyone have a thought on what would have caused this?

A failed amp has shoved pure DC up its spout is my guess as I've seen this before on a different speaker.

Ouch! At least they should keep me busy for a while. Big Grin

I would say a rewire to Active for the cabinet, then try to repair the crossover with new caps and rehouse in remote boxes for passive use. One advantage to be gained here, is if you add some ventilation holes in the base and lid there will be airflow and better cooling and you can feel how hot they are getting. Those boards look like they' virtually caught fire......
Someone was enjoying themselves when the old girls gave up the ghost.

Remote boxes and upgraded crossovers is my plan.

Edit: replaced tweeters with NOS Hiquphon LP-2, nice!

Just taken them apart ready for crossover removal and a full refurb.

No B200s were harmed.

Actually pretty easy.
