Volume control via Kinsky - mpbLinn - 2012-04-17 05:24 I have a Linn Majik DS and a Linn Majik Kontrol that I try to control via the iPhone Kinsky App. It works well except for that I cannot get the volume control to work which is pretty annoying. I feel that I have tried everything to make it work but have not been able to solve it. I have connected the RS232 cable to port 1 on the DS, configured this port for RS232 in Konfig, connected to "IN" on the Kontrol, and also verified that the RS232 is ON in the Kontrol setting. I am also not able to update the Kontrol via Konfig so there seem to be something wrong with the communication to it. The cable looks OK though. Highly appreciate any guiding to make this work! A particular cable and software is necessary for this. I had to take my Akurate Kontrol to the dealer for that. RE: Volume control via Kinsky - rowlandhills - 2012-04-17 13:06 Mikael - When you run the diagnostics in Konfig for the DS, does it show the Kontrol as connected? Sorry to hear your having difficulty setting up control of your Majik Kontrol via the DS. There is more to setting this up than the steps you have mentioned. For example, you also have to rename (using Konfig) one of the sources of your Majik Kontrol. Details of all the steps required are outlined on a dedicated page on our Docs site here... http://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Systems#Majik_DS_.26_Majik_Kontrol.2FMajik-I_.28.26_Majik_CD.29 You can ignore the references to the Majik CD player if you're not using one of these, but all the other steps are important. Let me know if you need any extra guidance. eamonn (2012-04-17 07:26)clAudio Wrote: This may not be what you expected to hear, but AFAIK you can't update the firmware of Majik Kontrol using Konfig (as opposed to a DS). RE: Volume control via Kinsky - mpbLinn - 2012-04-18 03:13 I followed the instructions and I found that I had to rename the Source to Majik Kontrol and it works now! Great thanks for very good help! Mikael RE: Volume control via Kinsky - ilduro - 2012-04-20 11:10 Hi, I have a similar issue. Connected and configured everything as per the Linn doc. I can see the volume level numbers in Kinsky but when I change the setting, it has no effect on the actual output. I am using the original cable that was supplied with the KDS. Hi ilduro What preamp are you trying to control via your KDS? When you say "...it has no effect on the actual output" I assume you mean the volume level you are hearing from your speakers. But can you see the volume changing on the front panel of the preamp, when you adjust volume on Kinsky? When you change source on Kinsky does the preamp change source as expected? eamonn RE: Volume control via Kinsky - ilduro - 2012-04-20 13:00 Hi ilduro What preamp are you trying to control via your KDS? You are correct: if I increase the volume on Kinsky, the music does not get any louder even though the numbers on the dial go up in Kinsky. If I then use the remote, the numbers on the display will readjust to the actual level again. No problem changing sources from Kinsky. I was able to do that even before introducing the KK into my setup. Thanks for trying to help! Startup source is also set to 'Klimax DS'. In Konfig, under Extra Information next to the KK symbol, I have a message saying "RS232 controlled device does not appear to be connected". |
