'Delayed Write Failure" - mda - 2010-03-17 20:44 Anyone know a fix for this error problem? Have a setup that has ripped flawlessly for some time now- dbPower Amp CD Ripper to ReadyNAS Duo, Twonky 5.0.68. Nothing has changed in the network or system config etc, but now any attempt at ripping a disc I get the 'delayed write failure' message from Windows XP and error messages from CD Ripper. I've tried rebooting the NAS as well as the laptop running the ripping software. Have tried re-establishing the ripping path, have made sure the NAS is accessible on the laptop on the network. Everything hardwired. Thanks! RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - billzab - 2010-03-17 20:52 Make sure the NAS is not doing any housekeeping stuff like backing up. Also check Twonky is not doing a rescan. This type of error can often be a connection problem like a dodgy cable connection. Hope this helps. Other than the above I have no other suggestions. Cheers, Bill. RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - mda - 2010-03-17 20:56 Thanks. I've noticed that issue before when Twonky is busy, but this time made certain it's not. Strangely, I can change the path to '/music' rather than '/music/flac' and it works, which seems to indicate that Twonky is doing something with the 'flac' folder or there's a permission error or something on the folder, but it beats me. RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - bez - 2010-03-18 00:15 These days I usually rip to C:\Local Audio, check it's ok, then drag and drop to QNAP NAS, but since I've already done my CD collection, it's now only the occasional disc ... RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - vicdiaz - 2010-03-18 03:09 If you rip directly to your NAS and the network or the NAS are busy at the same time, Windows will complain with that kind of error. Change yor ripped files target directory to a local drive and drag the files to the NAS after you're finished with the ripping process. To ensure that the file copied to the NAS is an exact copy of the one on the local drive, I use 'Teracopy'. It checksums each file prior to copy and verifies the 'checksum' after file copy is completed. RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - Flying Sheep - 2010-03-18 20:58 mda Bez has the answer. It's all about separation of duties. First rip to local storage - will give you the best performance. Then once you have a perfectly ripped file, move to the NAS to the subdirectory of your choice. GrĂ¼sse Chris RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - bez - 2010-03-18 21:55 It also means I can simply backup the new stuff to external HD, before emptying Local Audio RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - SaltyDog - 2010-03-19 20:09 I think this tip came from Brian. Apologies to whomever if I'm mistaken. After ripping to local c drive, move the files to a folder on the NAS that is NOT monitored by twonky. Then after the longish file transfer is complete, you can move the transferred file to the twonky monitored folder almost instantly. This seems to be easier for twonky to handle with the -1 setting. bez - good point on the backup. RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - Milo Tweenie - 2010-03-19 21:06 If your problem persists, you may want to search Microsoft's support site. The error message you are seeing is a known issue with XP. RE: 'Delayed Write Failure" - mda - 2010-03-19 21:27 Thanks All for the good suggestions and information. It does seem best / easiest to make this a two-step process... although I had hoped it wouldn't be necessary! |
