RE: iPad control point comparison
I'm not sure there is a 'perfect' control point for a DS. Surely it depends on how you want to play you music at the time.
I would expect that most / all Linn owners could afford to buy all the control points & just use whichever they fancied at the moment. If, like me, you are an old LP user then you probably have a DS playlist with 50 odd albums in it & spend the evening playing those albums, not browsing 25,000 tracks. i.e. 1: Get home from work 2: Eat, drink, be merry 3: Grab a handfull of LP (< 50) [*] 4: Spend evening just listening to those. etc etc Rik [*] Virtual albums on the DS's playlist. Yes: The rotation is going (You can still rotate the screen and the icons will re-arrange themselves - but the page (now playing / library / playlist) won't change. http://www.rikwatson.com * ABX Testing for your DS - http://bit.ly/abx_for_ds * Konductor - iOS control print for your DS http://bit.ly/konductor-app Only 79p each |

But none of the existing control apps is able to show me all my tags. I think this is really poor. This sounds like a server issue, not a control point issue. What server are you using? AFAIK you can see all of the tags if your server is MinimServer or Asset and you have it set up correctly. Quote:But what is worse and makes every control app unusable on my iPhone in certain situations is, that the track names are cut off when they are too long. Let me give an example: My collection contains a folder for JS Bach, within this folder I have one folder "Sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord", one other folder "Sonatas for violin and harpsichord", one folder for "Sonatas for violin and basso continuo", one for "Sonatas for cello (in german it's violoncello) solo", and one for "Sonatas for violin solo". When browsing through my collection all the control apps show only one line for the title and so I see "Sonatas for viol...", "Sonatas for viol...", "Sonatas for viol...", "Sonatas for viol...", and so on. This is a major issue for me when using Kinsky on iPod. ChorusDS shows almost twice as many characters on each line as Kinsky. The best CP I've found for this is SongBookLite, which gives a choice of different font sizes, automatically uses a smaller font for longer titles, and allows you to rotate the iPod/iPhone to put the display into landscape mode. |

RE: iPad control point comparison
Recent developments with the new SongBook update and Rik's posting about working on a new interface have put a smile on my face. I was very tempted to post a new topic about the lack of ongoing development with all of these applications. Up until the new events of the past 24 hours NONE of the control points have been updated for more than a year. My fear was that just as we awoke to find a new iOS update giving Kinsky fits the same would eventually happen to the other control points and we would all find ourselves with no way to control our DS's.
I truly believe that all of these programs need to be updated on a regular basis and I am happy to hear that Jason and Rik are still plugging away. I hope that the developer of Chorus has not abandoned ship. Finally, as someone mentioned above, everyone who owns a Klimax DS (and an Akurate for that matter) can certainly afford to purchase and help support each of these developers. I have been actively following the DS since its introduction in 2007 and when I finally abandoned my Naim CD player in February for a Klimax DS I made it a point to purchase a copy of EACH AND EVERY control point. Compared to the cost of the Klimax it is a drop in the bucket and it provides impetus to the developers to remain active. Everyone should do the same as it is in our interests that development and performance of these programs continues to improve. PS - the same goes for UpnP servers. I am indebted to Simon for quickly providing a native Mac UpnP solution and I would love to be able to reimburse him for his efforts and continual development. You are very active on this forum so you know what we like and what we don´t like. I think the beauty of streaming music is having 1.5 TB of music within seconds away from the thought of wanting to listen to it. For me the perfect control point would support the artist/album/song search underneath the folder search. So in your case you would still have your special folder with your 50 odd albums and can still search with covers without having all the other albums in the way. But if you want you go up one level and see the others. |

iPad control point comparison
I am surprises to see nobody talking about iPeng. I think it is from far the best app for DS. I have tried and bought nearly all of them, Kinsky, Chorus... And I am ready to pay to get a good one!
My main concern is to get a quick answer when searching for an album - I have several thousands of them on my NAS. And for the time being, IPeng is much quicker than the others, not talking about covers being nicely viewed or the latest albums that can be easily reached. Would be glad to help to get the best app possible

RE: iPad control point comparison
Wow - the songbook light is nice.
BUT- it still turns on a DS when you start it which is annoying. There should be an option to not start a room. It should also be possible to view / edit a device playlist without turning it on like you can in chorus. For me, a blend of songbook light and chorus with visuals from Kinsky would be great. The device / power overview screen in songbook light is great. There should be a 'turn off all' button though to put all DSs into standby. I have 5 on the network now, and the CPs are clearly designed o work with just one DS predominantly. Cheers |
