RE: What are your favourite film/music moments?
I think that Quentin Tarantino has a great ear for music in his films. I believe that I've read somewhere he sometimes even picks the music before starting to film some scenes.

I *always* get goosebumps when Luke is in his X-Wing in the Death Star trench and Obi-wan has just told him to ‘Use the force Luke... Let go Luke... Luke – trust me!’. The horns kick in as he switches off his targeting computer, some guy on the radio says ‘Luke you’ve switched off your targeting computer, what’s wrong!’ and Luke replies ‘Nothing, I’m all right’...
Its pathetic, I know! Do I even need to name the movie?!

RE: What are your favourite film/music moments?
Kubrick's movies are a world apart when it comes to music moments. There are many, but I will mention that scene (if my memory serves me right) in "Barry Lyndon" when the kid dies and Handel's Sarabande is playing loud. Melodramatic a bit, but moving nonetheless.

RE: What are your favourite film/music moments?
Great thread!
"Don't let it bring you down" by Annie Lennox (Neil Young Cover) in American Beauty. Brilliant use of music in Boogie Nights, e.g. "J.P. Walk" by Sound Experience etc, the most striking for me being "Do Your Thing" by Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, an improvised song building up such a strong tension, very well used in the film. Use of music in Big Lebowski, very many cool moments. The strange Jack Nitzsche music in the final scene of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. And obviously, the shower scene in Psycho, what a brilliant interplay of sound and vision. |
