Change in Windows Songcaster?
Songcaster on my Windows Vista machine was great and working like a charm. I recently upgrade to davarr 4 beta and sudenly have noticed that Songcaster was not there so I tried to reinstall it and found out it only wants to see Windows 7 now. Is that a new prerequisite for Songcaster on Windows?

PS. AirPlay is perfect (thank you Linn), just not as good sounding to me as Songcaster.

RE: Change in Windows Songcaster?
I had read that the fact that it even installed on vista is a bug. Let alone the fact you had it working.

I believe someone from linn had written that songcaster is only meant for windows 7 due to the way windows now handles its sound.

I do not know what windows did when moving from the xp / vista audio system as it used to work brilliantly. If you sent 96/24 out of the sound card that is what you got. Whereas now with windows, unless you run a patch to which I can not remember the name, windows 7 automatically down samples everything to 44.1.

But I digress,

Yes, windows 7 is required for songcaster.

RE: Change in Windows Songcaster?
I think Microsoft made the changes when they went from XP to Vista - something about the HAL (hardware abstraction layer), but I can't quite recall what it was.

I thought the same. I remember all the driver issues when Vista came out - half the reason why it got such bad press. So I am confused as to why Linn have specifically stated it only works on W7. I can understand it not being available for XP but I would have expected it to be OK on Vista.

Probably some technical reason for it...

Dave

PS Just found this quote on another post from graham from Linn...

"It's actually XP that has the old-fashioned audio subsystem, not Vista. Viata might come along some day, but XP never will."

Songcaster beta currently only works on Windows 7. The reason we have stated this is because it is the case.

Songcaster will never work on XP.

Songcaster may well work on Vista one day. There is no real technical reason why it shouldn't. It just doesn't today.

RE: Change in Windows Songcaster?
Yes sorry to cause any confusion, I should have clarified I never have used vista. Oh and for consistencies sake that patch I mentioned was wasapi.
