First Fact Finding Free Flac Files

I find it often said on the forum that people cannot find their favourite albums free on flac, i thougth that the torrent sites like Isohunt and Thepiratebay were world famous , the fact that utorrent the program i use to download the files to my computer actually downloads minimum eight albums ( by default) at one time if it is busy, utorrent only takes about one minute to install on to the pc and there is a mac version aswell i believe. i only use these two torrent sites because that is all i need and they are great. in three years of useing isohunt i have never had a moody file, i use the piratebay for the stuff i cannot find on isohunt, never a glitch. the artwork and all tags are all sorted. the fact that one can choose flac ,mp3, or 24 bit vinyl rips is great. eg,in the search box on isohunt enter flac the beatles, or mp3 the rolling stones, it could not be easier, and they are good for movies too.

what do you mean by "free"? those downloads are not "free"! i don't think that we should discuss this kind of downloads here on this forum!

there is always one, get real mate. i and others on the forum have ds and the choice of flac music in my/our musical tastes is next to none existant at the moment, let me guess, you are strictly a vinyl guy only? i hope that it is not sour grapes on your part because you cannot get involved to enlarge your collection and you feel left out? in fact it is free, i have never paid a cent for a single file, if you had said, `it is stealing`, then we could discuss it. wether or not we should discuss it? i guess we shall see as it is also a free country (uk) but also very expensive. however for me the arguement is not about the money, it is about the availability of flac material i would happily pay for it if i could find it, the music i like on flac is just not available any other way, other than ripping.

EDIT.i only very recently got a ripping programme so i will now concentrate on ripping my cd`s but as yet i cannot get the artwork sorted, the torrent downloads in most cases already have these things sorted, it is hardly surprising that people like me opt for them as they are superior to any of my attempts, i brows useing the artwork in most cases, in the near future one will not be able to download like this and it will be another chapter in the medium of music set to history, that will be a very sad day for me but not the record copanies or the tax man.

Since there's no official FLAC download of e.g. Pink Floyd DSOTM, finding one for free is stealing.

Furthermore, the bandwidth cost in some countries for downloading an entire album in FLAC may well cover the cost of purchasing the available CD itself.

Lastly, one may find a 'free' FLAC download but quality is not guaranteed.

I only search for free FLAC files when I can not get the CD and there is no way of getting the CD. I know it is a bit hypocrit . And it is not strange people mentioning that it is a bit strange discussing free files on a Linn-forum (Hint: Linn Records). And yes i do think it is stealing. If you do not think it is worth the money, don't listen to it. Simple. If the price is the problem and justifies the free downloading, why not steal a Ferrari, i want it, but it's to expensive. I know it does not cost the artist and the label money when you download music, but they don't get the money they should.

And if it is seen as stealing (as i see it) then i don't like it to be promoted.

that is fair enough comment, but i am not likely to find a free ferrari on line,not in my colour anyway. it is not all about the price of flac files, it is about the availability of them, other than classical which is catered for there is not much else in my tastes. in fact other than the two sites i have mentioned i do not even know where to buy such material but then i have not had to look.

for free is stealing? no of course i know what you mean, i cannot really argue against what you have said, but whilst i am able to access them at home so easily i will continue to do so,i think these are the `salad days` for this activity and it is in it`s prime, in a couple of years time people will say`do you remember the glory days` something this good cannot last, i am making the most of it, apparantly in 2012 the gig`s up anyway for all of us. Rock On.

To be honest, I did not download these tracks, just looking for them. (BTW its a band called Dilemma making progrock) And when i find them i will keep on looking for the CD. I agree that there is almost no musicdownload in Flac except some classical and a little jazz. So then i buy the CD and rip it to my computer. For you that that's to much work. And it is not my hobby either. I don't understand it either; you can download almost all kinds of music lossy, but almost no lossless.

i do own a DA (even a klimax DS), i have ripped my CDs as flac - or at least i am in the stage of ripping.

it is right, that it is quite difficult to find (legal) download sites which offer FLAC files, either in CD qualtitiy or studio master. there are a few offers out there, HDTracks for example, but their license is only valid if you are a US customer. i recently found a nother download site from a record company, where i payed for a FLAC download. i have paid for the files, although i am not in the US. so those downloads are also illegal - or at least not 100% legal.

i just wanted to state, that i think it is not correct to discus torrent downloads or any "one-click-file-hoster" in such a forum. if you do this for your own, this is one thing. to post it here and say: "hey guys, come one and follow me" this is not correct!

As they say 'there's no such thing as a free lunch'. That said, I did manage to get a free lunch at Linn products a while back!
