Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
Hello,
I am very interested in the Linn DS solution. I own a pair of Dynaudio 72 SE (86 Db impedance: 4 ohms). I have a red lot of very positive reviews on the MAJIK DS-I and I also understand that the separate elements MAJIK DS and Majik I would provide a more upgradable solution. For budgetary reason I am for the moment focusing on the MAJIK DS-I but I would like to know if this system can really drive correctly such speakers. Thank you for your response. |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
Within its limitations (90w into 4 ohms) I would expect it to drive any normal speakers. Are you able to try one at home, or failing that take your Dynaudios to a dealer?
Which amp are you using at present? ADS2 |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
No unfortunetaly I am not able to try the Majik DS-I. I am located in the south of France (Nice) and there is a local dealer. I have not contacted him yet but will do by the end of this week. So maybe I can try to bring my Dynaudios for a test. Everybody says that Dynaudio is difficult to drive but I have been using a cambridge 540R (2X100 watts in stereo) until now and the result is not bad (not great either).
Thanks. |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
You should definitely try to bring your speakers to test the synergry with Majik DS-I.
I have auditioned Majik DS-I with ProAc range and Extreme Audio monitor T10. As both of them are easy to drive speakers, the results were pretty good. Especially I liked it with the Monitor T10. http://www.extremeaudio.it/smonitor_t10_...excel.html |

Salut – I don’t know if the Chakra power amps are good with difficult loads (4 ohms will always be slightly harder than 8) - you could try asking Linn, or preferably an independent source, but I would expect it to at least equal a Cambridge Audio

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
I actually did ask Linn. I have sent them an email this week end. I also sent an email to Dynaudio and another one to an online magazine which has been performing extensive test on all the linn DS solutions. the link is the following but it is only in french:
http://www.evmag.fr/site.php?page=accueil I have no doubt that the Majik DS- I will be better than the Cambridge Audio. Another alternative would be to sell my Dynaudio... Do you have any views on the Linn Ripnas? I like the fact it is also a all in one solution but is it really worth the price? Many thanks. Actually the online magazine I mentioned (evmag) did perform their test with ProAc Response ‘D’ 2 and the result is apparently really good. So maybe yes the solution could be to sell my Dynaudio... Thanks. |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
Studio 140, Response D18, Response D38 have been tested, and the best (and the most expensive) was D38.
But also Studio 140 mk2 was not too bad. You could find a 2.hand Studio 140, as the mk2 has arrived. The older 140s' should be cheaper to find as 2.hand. |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
Just got the answers from Linn and Dynaudio: both are saying no problem.
Dynaudio is adding that it is ok for a room of "average size". In my case my room is quite large: around 55 m². Linn is adding that in any case I can always add an Akurate amplifier 2200 (which is quite expensive...). |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
In that space, if you like your music loud you may need more than 90w for the Dynaudios - ideally twice the power handling of the speakers, which in this case would be 250-300w. Or even better some bigger speakers …
I tried a pair of 72 SE some time ago and felt they were a little exaggerated in the bass, to compensate for their size, but I’ve never particularly liked small ported speakers, with a few exceptions. ADS2 |

RE: Linn MAJIK DS-I and Dynaudio 72 SE
So it's a few mounths later, and I have the same 'problem' in combining a set of Dynaudio's with a Majik DS-i. I have a pair of Contours 1.3SE and it was impossible to drive them correctly with a Majik DS-i (as well as with a Naim Uniti). I learned that my Dynaudio's simply don't like the class-D power amps I heard so far. (Lyngdorf wasn't a match either....)
