RE: Chorus turning albums into single tracks
The free version of Asset does not include Folder browsing. I would think the RipNas has the full version. If so, can you not find your files where you put them?
Is this function also handled by the NAS? In Twonky I place my files where I want them. I usually view in Folder view, which is how I arranged things myself. I still use Twonky v4.4.17 because the version 5 and 6 Twonky jack with the order inside of folders. It's sort of like Apple vs. Windows vs. Linux . Apple just works if you just want to do what they think you should do. Windows will let you find a solution to what you want to do, but comes with irritants. Linux works and works and works, but you have to know how it works and it has a serious learning curve. Ducking for cover ![]() Linn DS has a learning curve, then it works and works and works. Klimax DS/1/D, Klimax Kontrol/1/D, ATC SCM50SL AT Salty Dog system RenewDS, Karin, Klout, Tukans and of course jRiver. |

I think the issue is with the tags applied by the supplier of your downloads. I have found that HDTracks - and the Bowers & Wilkins Society of Sound - flac files have some pretty eccentric tags which, if unamended, will break any filing scheme. Fundamentally, you have a choice: you can either leave the tags as they are, criticise the innocent party & leave your KDS on the shelf, or, spend a minute or less per album with one of the many packages that edit tags. Linn decided to go open-source with the control software for the DS. If they hadn't, there wouldn't be any Linn DS on the market because they'd still be writing the software. This decision opens a wealth of choice for us, the users, but also means that Linn does NOT control the whole package, which they did previously. Therefore, complaining about Linn will not change anything since it is likely to be the vendor of your music who's at fault. I can recommend Tag&Rename as a good bit of software for editing tags on many files at once. Other like mp3tag; I'm not so keen on it myself, but it's free, and does the job. hth N NickP K-DS/1, KK/D, Klouts, Keltiks; Furman Elite-16 PF Ei LP12, Lingo, Ekos, Arkiv-B in storage. Always buy the very best you can afford, or the cheapest; anything else is a compromise, and compromises seldom satisfy. |

RE: Chorus turning albums into single tracks
What story is this now - buy Linn but do not expect to get it all???
I do not think (hope) that Linn agree to that statement. Buying Linn you should expect to get it all as a minimum and even hope for more - of course you should and why not? There is no reason on earth why you shouldn’t get it all buying Linn. Linn already has succeed with the tricky part building a dream of streamer and the only piece missing to fulfill the dream they themselves promise you when buying is a piece of software that allow you to play the dream without driving you crazy by atomizing you albums. If they also could add just a few extra features to the software it would be nice but for a start I am just asking for a piece of software that do not infect you music collection almost as a virus. Is it a buck – yes it is. Again I am referring to Sonos. Sonos do not have the problem in their software that is even poorer and even more featureless than Chorus but at least it is functioning. Why is Linn then having the problem? Since when has Linn surrendered to Sonos? It should be a relatively simple job to correct a buck as described using simple logic and a little bit of self-confidence – if Sonos can do it, of course we can do it also and even do it better? The worst part of this story is almost the disappointment you experience when opening, installing and start playing the ultimate streamer in the world. The music flows out of your speakers in a beautiful and absolutely stunning way and you go for your favorite albums thrilled to listening to them for the first time in 24-bit just to learn that they are gone, atomized by Chorus, you will never see them again unless you spend hours of tag editing! Luckily I have most of the recordings also on vinyl so I can still enjoy the music in a 24-bit like quality but is that how the dream of buying Linn should end? |

As a Linn buyer I should not be involved with technicalities as "open source", "Linn is not involved with the software" etc. I have bought a full package from Linn. A package that promised me the ultimate experience of listening to music. Now you are telling me that I have bought a car without tires. Then tires are only available as an open source that can and will explode anytime you don't expect it and there are no alternatives! To me one should understand the concept of Linn. Linn is special, Linn is the ultimate, and buying Linn you should not expect and not accept any bad performance or malfunctioning. Therefore this discussion should be very short - stop all the talking beside the point, just correct the buck! |

"...beside the point" well, point is and has been worked out precisely, that linn is unable to deal with or cure faulty tags supplied by hd-tracks - that's not really to blame. so emotion might better be pointed to hd-tracks who sold a not properly working product to you or tags should be corrected properly (no, not hours, just minutes) to have the ultimate experience.

RE: Chorus turning albums into single tracks
Chorus is very well liked software, so I doubt you've discovered a bug that basic. And your dealer should be able to show you how to tag files. Your problem sounds like it could be fixed in a minute!

You never know which albums will be atomized so first you have to identify and sort out the albums infected and then you can start the tagging. It takes min. 3-5 minutes each track and with 15 tracks per album you easily spend an hour per album! Hd-tracks has no problem with Sonos so why should they change anything? Sonos works fine with us, so if it don't work with Chorus, then Chorus has a problem. Easy logik? I Think so! |

RE: Chorus turning albums into single tracks
Which albums are you having problems with? Are they compilations/various artists by any chance? If not can you provide some examples? I've downloaded a few albums from HD Tracks and not noticed the problems you describe.
