can Majik 140 aktiv with av5125 + c3200

Hi friends,

I wonder if I can let my Majik 140 go aktiv with 1 AV5125 + 1 Chakra 3200 AMP? (totally 8 channels)

I know the aktiv card for 5125 and C3200 is not the same...

And,

1. if I use 5125 to go aktiv, shall I need an external tunebox?
2. if I can still buy the aktiv card of 5125 from Linn?

You can't buy tuneboxes any more, but you can get "Chakra" cards suitable for new amps like your 3200, and these can be supplied with (free) adapters to fit your AV5125.

However, your system will likely sound rather unbalanced, as you'll have at least one channel on each side which don't having matching amplification. A4200 and four channels of a 5125 would be much better. Otherwise, try to get a second 3200 or 2200 ASAP, so that you have an even number if channels powered by the 5125.

You are right and one channel of 5125 and one of 3200 is unbalanced, and I might to get another 5125 to go aktiv the 140s by 2 av5125.

The 3200 is a much better amp though, it depends on your final goal. I've seen 5100s go on eBay for not much more than 5125s, and a 5100/3200 combo would be less unbalanced.

What kit do you already own?

The kit are Majik 140 , Majik Integrated I AMP, and MDS.

I may get 2 av5125 (for I prefer 5125's bigger output than 5100) , can I use the previous stereo cards for av5125 to go aktiv my Majik 140 without the tunebox?

No, Linn never made any aktiv cards for 140s except the current Chakra type mono cards.

Assuming that you've got the new style Majik-I, the obvious upgrade route is a 6100. That will give you all the channels you need, in one extra box. You'll four times as much available power as you currently do, and the same tonal balance across all channels.

If you later decide that you want even more power or high quality, you could upgrade to two 4200s and stop using the internal channels in your Majik-I.

If you wait until later this Summer, Linn may well run a "Summer Promo" offering the aktiv cards for free if you buy a new amp.

But you can use chakra cards with adapters in a 5125. However, you need six channels of extra amplification, so you'd need two 5125s, which would cost more than one 6100 second hand.

you are right. 2 av5125 might be more expensive than 6100.

Some people say that X100 is better than 5125, but Some people say that 5125 is better than 5100 for the double power output , and the power output may be the most important element to a AMP.
