Linn DS Software experience

I must download and install the following: digital media player/management software, such as KinskyDesktop (from Linn) or SongBook DS (from Bookshelf Apps); file-ripping software, such as dBpoweramp (from Illustrate); and a configuration program from Linn called LinnKonfig.
Media-server software such as Twonky (from Packet Video) may also be required, depending on the installation also downloaded .

Finally after spending thousands of pounds , i have to download and install much of the above, needed to download and install the appealingly named Mono (from Novell), which is described as "an open source, cross-platform implementation of C# and the CLR that is binary compatible with Microsoft.NET."

Is Linn ever going to get a grip of there Kinsky software for the DS this lacking the Linn performance.

Linn DS is really only half a product , Is there any one out there that has tried and tested any software that is simple does what it say's on "tin"

So far out of the 6-7 software apps the best software i have tested is Chorus DS that has performed well is simple to use. Any ideas welcome?

I've never had a problem with dBPowerAmp.
Konfig only problem is Norton tries to block it, so have to give permission.
Twonky 4.4.17 - I've been using for years with no problems ever.
KinskyDesktop - betas are betas - official releases have worked well.

I have also found that I need speakers, amplifiers, electricity and a good chair. Some suggest a good red.

A certain amount of learning is required. Your dealer should be your first line for setting things up. If you have specific problems this forum is full of people willing to help you out. You seem to have a pretty good handle on what is needed. With what do need help?

I bought my AKDS, 3 years ago. I have tried many software, the worth for me is "the Linn Konfig", if elther the title of the track or the album name is too long , then you can't see the track or the complete album. Then I decided to listen to music with JRiver Media Center.
It's not the perfect solution for me , but it's fine if you have Hight speed internet.

What did it say on YOUR tin? Mine wasn't particularly specific, but DID say that I had a huge choice because of Linn's commitment to open standards, and I've ended up with a software/hardware setup that works well and that didn't cost much to fit into my existing infrastructure.

This discussion has been done over and over again in different threads... Applying an open standard does not exclude making sure as a company putting a product on the market, that there is a cross platform fully working and integrated software solution that makes the product work flawlessly! Preferably also aimed at less computer savvy people....

I fully agree.

I wonder why such a software product doesn't exist?

What seems to get ignored in this thread, and similar ones, is that producing great products is REALLY REALLY difficult, and very very few succeed. And of those that succeed - in the software field, at least - not many survive (flame risk: Novell Netware, anybody?) Even organisations whose central purpose is to produce software of the type requested herein have not delivered anything in this respect - if any had, these threads would not get started.

Why, for example, has illustrate not produced the end-to-end solution demanded? Asset and dBpoweramp have many fans, so
<irony> Why doesn't Spoon just write a little control point app that will run on Windows, MacOS, iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows 7, Linux & Nokia N800 to complete the portfolio? And port Asset to Mac & other unix platforms so it can run on a NAS?<\irony>

And Twonky, whose server is embedded on many a NAS, why haven't THEY produced the missing bit of the end-to-end solution?

These two highly experienced companies haven't done it, yet the demand is that a company with little background in this area [Linn] should "just do it", with the expectation that its offering would be vastly preferable, in every respect, to the offerings of the experts.

I'm with everyone on the DESIRE for the "solution that perfectly meets MY requirements and that will run FLAWLESSLY on MY infrastructure and that I can load on to ANY device running ANY operating system that I choose." But I'm not going to criticise anybody for not having produced such a beast.

Thanks for you responses , I would appreciate if anyone had any experience with running the Linn DS with Mac's?

What would is the best combination of software that is simple to use and run.

Is it Chorus DS , Kinksy (Beta) version , I have been running chorus, but could not add any Radio stations? I have now updated to the Latest Davaar software and chorus cannot find the DS.

I have Kinsky for the mac working now, is this going to be better then then Chorus DS?

Yes, I had some fights with my system, but the headline was "network setup". Installing my Majik DS-I took me 30 minutes - and I am not a computer freak.

So I think you push to hard:
KinskyDesktop + Konfig: For free (and I use only Konfig every 3 Month for setup or update
Twonky: No need. I use a readyNAs Duo and the build in readyDNLA is good enouth for me
Chorus DS + dbpoweramp: OK, bought it - but they are preaty good.

So were are the "thousands of pounds"? I spend it for 1-5% "pioneer spirit" (I confess: I like it) and 95% to 99% "joy of music" when I listen to my system.

At the moment I worry, that you can´t get all benefits. The advance of an open system an the convenience of the good old CD. My choise: See below.
