No volume control on Kinsky
Hi,
I am now a proud owner of a sneaky ds and I am pleased to report the sound quality is very impressive. However all is not working quite right at present - as there is no volume control via Kinsky!(the rotary knob thing is not illuminated) The sneaky is connected to a Linn Classik music - which is acting as an amp. I can adjust the volume via the Classik but I know I should be able to control it from the Kinsky software - I know this because it worked for the first day! The internal amp in the sneaky is switched off and I have now tried all the options on Konfig to try and resolve this - including re-installing it and rebooting. I did update from Cara to Davaal in Konfig - because there was a message there informing me that an update was available(this may be related?)
I have also re-installed Kinsky in different versions and even re-installed Twonky. What ever I try the volume option is still not available.
Anyone got any ideas? thanks in advance.

RE: No volume control on Kinsky
Hi Mondo,

Sounds like you have updated Konfig to Davaar, but you should also update the Sneaky's firmware (through Konfig's Update tab in the lower pane) to Davaar, and use a Davaar control point.

Once you're definitely straight on software families, then ensure the Sneaky's internal volume control is on, it's a configuration option found in Konfig. Note the instruction to reboot the DS for a change in this setting to take effect!

Thanks Matt. I have tried turning the sneaky volume control on and this does indeed activate the volume on Kinsky - however it now only works on the radio, and when I play a track from my library the other knob on the Kinsky (track control) is not activated - the little wheel just spins round and round and there is no sound at all.
As for the update you mentioned - this I had already done.
Please remember that I am not using the internal amp in the sneaky as I have it connected to a classik music. I think for now I better switch off the internal volume - at least I can play music this way and can use the volume control on the Classik.

This sounds like a configuration issue. When you open Konfig do you have an entry for your Sneaky and your Classik? If not please refer to http://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Sy...vie_system for how to configure your system.

Hi David,
thanks for reply - my Classik is and older version - not sure that the instructions apply. Mine is about 8 years old - a Classik K I believe.

Classik Music should be running software version S03530102 (only works for variants made from 2008).

RE: No volume control on Kinsky
Mondo, sorry, I was assuming you wanted to use the volume control in the sneaky, but of course you may well have wanted to use KDT to control the volume on the Classic, if that is possible on your Classic K.

But the problems you have with KDT definitely don't sound right. What's your setup? Can you download and install the current official Davaar release of KDT, from here: http://www.linn.co.uk/kinskydesktop, and see how that goes?

Hi mondo

If your Classik Music device is an older variant than the model released in 2008 then it is not possible to control its volume via the network.

RE: No volume control on Kinsky
OK - thanks, I though that that may have been the case. strange thing is that when I set it up first - with the latest Kinsky (I am now using older one I think - with the controls at the top instead of the bottom of screen) the volume on Kinsky DID work.I am sure I did not imagine it as I was playing around with it! Then it stopped! Never mind, it is no big deal using the remote or the buttons on the Classik, It is arms length away!
what I am now most surprised about is how good it can sound with tracks I have downloaded from Amazon over the years and ripped from cd - guess this is the upsampling, maybe I dont have to totally start again with flac, still on my free trial with dbpoweramp :-)
thaks for all your repliesShy

hi mondo

If you really want to have volume control via a network control point (ex. KDT) you could enable the internal volume control on the Sneaky. If you do this, then, for best results you should set the volume on your Classik Music to 80 (unity gain). The downside to this is that you would have to remember to decrease the volume on your CM before listening to any other sources (ex. internal CD player).

PS - Is it possible that the Sneaky internal volume control was enabled before (it's enabled by default on the Sneaky) and this is why you remember having previously used the KDT volume control.
