And Vangelis is just amazing. Rutgar Hauer's ad-lib with accompanying music at the end of Blade Runner is one of my all time favourite movie scenes "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe". Check out his web site which is themed with the music from Blade Runner.

...Attack ships on fire off the shore of Orion.
gloriousYou're right about Morricone - watched Once Upon a Time in America again recently and it was the first thing that came into my head when I hit the post button on my own list. |

RE: What are your favourite film/music moments?
Talking about '2001: Space Odyssey' soundtrack, rumours have it that Kubrick originally chose Mahler's 3rd Symphony as the main theme but when he was given a gift, a recently released Karajan & WPO recording of Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra, he changed his mind. Rights issues prevented him from using the Karajan recording, being offered a Karl Bohm reading instead. So it was arranged, but Kubrick however secretly found a way of replacing the Bohm's recording for his favourite, the Karajan's.
Well, at least, that's what is told here:http://www.qobuz.com/info/MAGAZINE-ACTUALITES/SUR-SCENE/Stanley-Kubrick-L-odyssee-des-sons56412 |

The mall chase scene in The Blues Brothers. Well, the whole of The Blues Brothers really, but that one in particular...

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned but a couple more would be:
The Chase and Theme from Midnight Express by Giorgio Moroder. Trainspotting, particularly Iggy Pop's Lust For Life and Underworld's Born Slippy, pure brilliance which elevates a great film to even greater heights. Then for a change of pace Ron Goodwin's 633 Squadron Theme, good rousing stuff, fetch my flying hat & goggles darling! The Magnificent Seven Theme, makes me wish I was as cool as Yul Brynner. When I get the urge for a spot of zither, The Third Man, positively dripping with atmosphere. |

RE: What are your favourite film/music moments?
Philbo beat me to it (twice.) 2001 opening strongly seconded - the first music to actually make my hair stand on end (at the age of 12 watching 2001 in Cinerama - remember that?) Plus all the rest of the music from 2001, Clockwork Orange and pretty much any other Kubrick movie.
Unfortunately, I bought the LP of Also Sprach Zarathustra on the strength of this, and decided that beyond the first 30 seconds I didn't like it much. (Much like the book!) Blues Brothers too of course. Did Aretha ever sing better? At the opposite end of the subtlety spectrum from Kubrick - how about the music on Kevin & Perry go Large? No, really! Just great fun. Particularly turned up loud through your Linn system. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0205177/soundtrack Mustn't forget all the great Python songs either - mainly penned by Eric Idle. None of the Python movies would be half as good without them. Finally - how about the sound of that Lamborghini Countach in the Cannonball run? Music to my ears indeed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFB6FfaNQ...re=related Pity about the music getting in the way in this case... Always look on the bright side of life!

Peter Weir's already been mentioned, but his use of Gorecki's wonderful 3rd during the plane crash in Fearless hasn't yet.
