The signal needs to be delayed by 900ms for 33rpm and 670ms for 45rpm. Originally an analogue reel to reel tape machine was used to delay the signal. One or two mastering houses will use the reel to reel on special request, but it's very rare indeed. Or is there some other implications? Would like to hear more. |

One or two mastering houses will use the reel to reel on special request, but it's very rare indeed. I'm just really highlighting that we have not been listening to truly analogue vinyl for many decades, and I don't think many vinyl lovers realise this. These delays were quite poor quality, with converters that really weren't great sounding (many mastering houses, however, now use 24bit/high sample rate converters, but this has come about largely after the main demise of vinyl). The implication is that we love the colouration vinyl gives. It's not a 'truer' sound. We just somehow prefer it (nothing wrong with that). And we can't say it is revealing any more information, unless the analogue chain was preserved throughout, which unless you're listening to vinyl that was manufactured 35-40 years ago, is unlikely. On topic and interesting listening.
http://allthingsd.com/20120131/neil-youn...eintomedia As well as Gilad, I have managed a conversation with Mr Young, albeit via email & there is a groundswell for this to happen. The more that 'Hi-Rez' audio is backed and promoted, the better it will be. Choice (aside from Linn, Gimeli and a few others) is way low. |

It seems Apple remain unconvinced on TRUE lossless - preferring their "Mastered for iTunes" secret sauce...

RE: Music Industry set to embrace Studio Master
Since music starts with the artist, how much of the studio masters charges get passed on to the artist. Is it significantly more than for a 16bit 44.1k FLAC release? Or is it like the Nespresso concept, money for the distribution chain / manufacturer.
It would be nice if Linn would give us some commercial revenue split between their various formats. |

In fact, the only hires version appears to be the bluray one, not even a DVD-A version with the CD as has happened with previous titles. 'troll |
