Controlling volume renew ds to exotik via rs232 ?
I am trying to get volume control through kinsky for the iPad so far without succes.
I put an RS232 cable between renew ds (port 2) and exotik ( in).

In konfig I made the necessary connections. The exotik is only visible as akurate kontrol and I get a message that rs232 connection is not working.
Software version of the exotik is S2080109. I did read that firmware of an akurate kontrol needs to be a newer version, but I can not do this myself.

Does anyone know if this is going to work with an Exotik at all, or do I have to look for an Akurate kontrol if I want this functionality?

Exotik or Exotik with DA?

I believe an exotik+DA will work with the right firmware, as it's an Akurate Kontrol.

Hi Brucey,

It's a non-DA, so maybe that's the bottleneck. I can not upgrade firmware through konfig. Was considering an akurate kontrol for the integrated phono board, maybe just found another argument....Big Grin

Soundwise i am happy, and control through the iPad with kinsky works like a charm. Grabbing that old remote for volume control just feels a bit clumsy now.

Thinking of it, maybe there's a remote app available though, will check.

Controlling volume renew ds to exotik via rs232 ?
Hi,

I was in your same position last summer until I grasped an ex-dem Akurate Kontrol in mint condition for $2000.00 USD. Did the firmware upgrade myself and sold my non-DA Exotik for $1000.00 USD.

Did you find any change in sound quality when moving from Exotik to Akurate Kontrol ?

Please bear in mind that early versions of the renew had RS232 port 1 & 2 labels swapped around.

I don't know anything about the exotik but I nearly returned a demo Renew DS when home demo'd through Majik DSI as I was not convinced with improvement; played through fully active Misobariks, 2100 and 6100.

Dealer installed Akurate Kontrol for home demo and I bought both without hesitation. I think in another post on my upgrade I explained it was like comparing light cream to full cream - everything just lit up.

Renew DS, Klimax Kontrol/1, M'Isobarik, 2 x Solo's (undynamik'd), Silvers, QNAP TS-410 Turbo (3tb), Netgear WPS.......and 1970's clock radio.

I went from Exotik (non-DA, non-Dyn) to Kinos, to Exotik+DA/Dyn. Each was a step up in sound quality and musicality.

Main System: Renew DS > Exotik+DA/D > A2200/D > 242s (mk2)
& A3200/D > 106c, 104c's (using Linn Silvers & K400, on Hutter rack)

Dining Room: Sneaky DS > Majik 109s (using "K200")
Bedroom: Majik DS > Tivoli Radio Model 3 + Companion Speaker

RE: Controlling volume renew ds to exotik via rs232 ?
It can be done at the expense of your DS toggling the on/off of your exotik.
If you set the pre-amp as Classik Musik it will control the volume.
I'm sure it works too if you select certain other pre-amps. Just experiment, it'll do no harm. It's been a long while since I played around with the settings so can't quite remember which does what.
I currently have my pre-amp set as Klimax to toggle the on/off.

ADSM, 4200/D, 109s, k400, silvers

Little Wong - Are you on Davaar for your MDS? I had a feeling that only worked for Cara...
