RE: Distortion of highs?
Try this. Take some Blu-Tack and use many small pieces of it between the felt-mat and the outer platter so it cannot rotate. Take three small pieces of Blu-Tack and secure the record! you are playing from the edge of the record to the top edge of the outer platter so the record cannot rotate.
In my system this is a big improvement. It can all be removed again so just try it! (Not using this tweak anymore, found it to change the music in a bad way:-))

Nothing new since Ivor made his first Sondek!

RE: Distortion of highs?
It's also worth mentioning again that just having the mat the right way up makes a nice improvement too!Smile

If the mat is the wrong way up, you can expect the sound to be edgier, glassier in sound (sorry for the terrible English there - But it gets what I'm trying to convey, across I hope!). The ability to tunes and bass lines are also compromised, so not as musical.

Generally, sticking the mat whether with Blu-Tak or double sided tape is not something I'd suggest, but as Beck says, it's reversible, so judge for yourselves.

i just upgraded to a lingo II and t kable for my lp12. It sounds really nice, except for one thing. High vocals seem to be a bit distorted and a bit harsh. For example when Adele starts to sing 'chasing pavements' the s sounds very dominant and sounds like 'chassssiing pavementssssss. Not every record has this problem but it occurs especially with female singers.

What could be the problem with this? Could it be the cartridge that cant seem to handle the information?

Hi, I use to have this problem for years and years, my first LP12 1980, I always thought it was my cartridge miss-tracking, old worn Lps or bad cables etc. About two weeks ago i got my latest plinth all setup and was i amazed, all my old Lps were crystal clear music, sure i could hear the surface noise but it is never intrusive at all, also my cartridge is not in it's ideal position yet but it sings all the way across the record, no last song miss-tracking noise. The sound is cleaner with a lot lot more of everything, my speakers are singing while almost disappearing. I have posted a photo on "show us your Linn" make one for yourself or get someone to make it for you and i guarantee that you will be very happy.
