RE: What is Your Favorite Holiday Destination?
There's a really nice spot about 12' away from a couple of speakers that, when nicely furnished with a beverage and good company, can transport me to places where pretty much nothing else can.

Maldives hands down, best diving I've seen, wipes the floor with Mauritius! If you're a diver then I'd rather go to the Red Sea than Mauritius.

Great Barrier Reef off of Cairns. Stayed on a catamaran for 3 days. There is a whole different world down there and the beauty is impossible to put into words.

Phobic, Red Sea > Maldives?
I've dived the GBR off both Cairns and Airlie Beach. Perhaps I'm not a connoisseur but for me the Reef is the Reef. (2012-02-24 10:53)Warren Wrote: Phobic, Red Sea > Maldives? I learnt in the red sea and haven't been back yet but I found the Maldives better. The red sea is better for wrecks without a doubt but the Maldives has much better dive boats and staff, just as much if not more wild life on the reef, loads of sharks and a massive amount of rays - I saw 5 juvenile Mantas cyclone feeding along with 3 massive adults when we dived a cleaning station - they were so close you could reach out and touch them as they glided past, it's a pretty common site as well. But if you hit the west side during the Manta migration months you can dive with hundreds at a time. I would regularly snorkeled with reef sharks and turtles while listening to the dolphins swimming past. And because of the atoll formation you almost always get a different dive site due to currents - Vis is amazing too so a drift dive there is something special. add to all that some fantastic hotels, peace, isolation and great food and I find it hard to beat. one of the few holiday locations I'd go back to, I'd even stay at the same hotel again - Bandos Island, look it up it's just perfect. If I were going back to Egypt I think I'd only do it on a liveaboard - you don't need to do that in the Maldives.... |
