RE: Which iPad?
Lots of good suggestions.
I bought an iPad 2 with 64 GB.
I use the 64 GB to store my music in WAV, so I hear high quality music when I travel, or at the gym. I can also check my e-mails when I am away from home through WiFi.
The iPad 2 has a dual core processor, and you are sure to download stuff from the internet as you are listening to your music system, or read and reply to posts on the Linn Forum. So it is much faster than the iPad 1
I personally don't see the need to have 3G for my purposes , as I have an iPhone.
Waiting until the new iPad 3 comes out in the spring will be an option too. It will probably have a better camera and perhaps even the Siri voice control software amount other things.
As a strictly control device, iPad 1 or 2 will work well. My preference would be the iPad 2 without question.

RE: Which iPad?
If you are not going to store a lot of games/videos then a 16 wifi will be plenty.

One major advantage of the iPad 2 is that if you keep it in a case, then opening the lid switches it on.

I have both a 32 3g and a 16 wifi so you will guess that I am an iPad fan. My only warning is that the iPad changes the way you use computers so bear this in mind.

Refurbished iPads from Apple are certainly worth considering:

Main: KDS1, KK1, Oppo 105, Klimax Xovers, Tundra Monos, Klimax 350.

Second: Majik DSi connected to 109's in the kitchen, and Akurate 212's in the office, driven by KCTD.

Will I be sorry if I save a few $$ and buy the basic 16GB version without 3G?

I purchased a brand new iPad1 the day the 2s came out. Saved $100. I have a 16GB with wi-fi. I have a smart phone and don't store much on the iPad so don't need all the other stuff. I had a Blackberry for two years and now the iPhone. No apps on either. I have a couple on the iPad.

The iPad is a great control point. I have both ChorusDS HD and Kinsky. I prefer Chorus but you can't beat the price of Kinsky.

RE: Which iPad?
I also have a blackberry, there are no control point apps for this device. Considered an iPod but iPad1 can be had for just a little more.

As a control device it is perfect, and I think much more convenient than an iPhone/iPod format. When I would have it on my phone, no one can use it when I am away. Also it would be disturbing for me when my control point rings all the time while I am listening music.

I use the iPad for web browsing, sometimes answering an email, and as a control point with Kinsky. This (free) version works very well for me and I don´t feel the need for a different paid version. For all these tasks it works just fine for me.

3G is only necessary outside, not for domestic use.

I would just buy the cheapest one you can get. iPad2 is a bit faster but so will be iPad3 and iPad4. The extra functionality such as a camera does not offer anything to your control point options. The (excellent) screen is the same. iPad 2 is a bit thinner, and therefore maybe more convenient to hold, but that´s a personal thing.

When my iPad1 runs out, I´ll welcome the extra options in whatever model iPad is then available.

BTW, if you buy a model 1, I would not automatically update it to version iOS5, but leave it on iOS4, as version 5 is said to make the iPad1 a bit slower.

RE: Which iPad?
Just bought a basic iPad 2 which works very well as the control point (so my Touch is probably now redundant) It’s handy for web browsing in front of the TV, and a bit of Skyping, but otherwise mainly an expensive toy, although a friend recommended the £2.99 app Garage Band which is great fun, with a decent range of (recordable) musical instruments.
