I agree I preferred my 242s to Artikulat 350s

Not for me. Solos do stuff no other amp I've heard do. I'll stay with Solos as my poweramp, if Solo active is a financial option, I'll do it.

Hi Jean, yes I now have a pair of 350p's after extensive testing with 242's for a month or so. I also ran the 350's with 2 x 4200 for a few months as I had already had these amps with Keltiks.

Out of sheer curiosity, I borrowed a pair of Solo's from my dealer for the week. After the week was up, I gave them back to him and went back to the Akurates. At this point I stopped listening to the system, it was very depressing. Sad

Solos were purchased and installed within a week!

As has been said before many times now, Klimax amplification re-write the rules when it comes to comparing a subordinate amplifier run active, with a Klimax amp run passive. The Klimax will win 95% of the time. The price of 2 x 4200's is more expensive than a new Dynamiked Twin, and I would definitely choose the latter.

I had a similar experience. The only difference was that I borrowed a pair of Solo's for just two hours.

The Solo does things I've only heard live before.

Playing a Ben Zander/Boston Phil/Beethoven's 5th CD I heard stuff going on in the orchestra that I hadn't heard since hearing them play it live.

Also playing a studio master by Rachel Podger, who I've heard live dozens of times, the Solos phrased the notes the way Rachel does live.

I listened to a KDS.1d - KK.1d - Solos - K350P in 2010, with the Solos being current 2010 spec, so Mk.1s with Brilliant psu.

I'm curious to hear what everything else is supposed to sound like. I'm almost tempted to get Solos before Radikal/Urika.

The only thing more exciting than owning Solos is wondering what Linn will come up with to improve or replace them.

Hi All

Any update on information in this thread, which is now quite old? Linn insist that Akurate aktiv is way to go with 350p, rather than passive with KCTs, but that does not accord with views of forum members! I am still deliberating on whether to keep 4200s and run aktiv with 350p, or trade Akurates to fund s/h solos to run passive (Flatcoat, thanks for your advice on wiring KCTs).

Having just revisited some comparisons I've done, and a comment made by the dealer at the time (I could bi-amp with a Twin and a pair of Solos), which reminds me of an introductory experience from years ago (the Linn Harrods demo system of CD12 - KK - Komris aktiv with a combination of Solos and Twins - I'm wondering what results one gets when mixing these two amps. Solos is clearly better than Twins. However, I wonder if aktiv with an amp mix is better than multi-amped passive with Solos.

I love what Solos do, and prefer Solo-350P much more than 350A. I also prefer Twin-242 over aktiv with Akurate amps.

And horses for courses.
