I have another thread going http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/showthread.php?tid=14089 where ChrisW has been very helpful in getting me to a stable system and as I said my current config is probably where I ought to to have gone from day 1 but I really didn't think I would have to have such a network and these bits of kit sat behind the DS and the amps! Not that this is a problem now. I my case I am convinced the problem was the Thomson router supplied by my ISP. Taking that out of use for wireless and letting the WGR614 do the wireless and with the NAS and DS a separate subnet as recommended by Linn seem to have done the trick. Tonight I even upgraded the firmware on the NAS and it introduced version 6.0.34 of Twonky and the iPad control points just found it right away. |

I think that is where I got mine from for £20 new. I've had quite a bit of experinece with Netgear kit and it's always seemed stable & functional, albeit not always as long-lived as one might have hoped. Wifi was not too good, but it's five years since I've used WiFi on a piece of Netgear kit for anything other than interweb browsing, so can't say what they are like at present. For myself, I had a Dratek Vigor 2200-series ADSL router + access point, & never had a hint of poor service from it. In particular, the Wifi just worked as expected. The only trouble I had with it was when two of the 4 LAN ports failed during a thunderstorm. I replaced it with a 2800-series model, which has just sat there, doing its job without fuss, for the past two years. A Linn dealer friend now installs Cisco networking hardware whereever he can, and most of his hair has grown back, now. I so agree with that last bit!!! ![]() As to the first bit (using Cisco), it's really great to hear that he is taking the network issue so seriously and can provide a top class network plant and configuration service as well as the HiFi system. Incidentally, Draytek is another cool choice; they make very good (and very configurable) broadband router devices (I have used a Draytek 2820Vn - but with an external Cisco WAP - for several years). For quite some time now, Draytek have been the company of choice by many folks who install network equipment in small businesses; I find them in such places quite regularly. Bri

I asked this on another thread but got no responses; do you have a recommendation for a router compatible with BT Infinity? I understand they need to be VDSL, whatever that is.
