RE: No artist has produced their best work after 30
I read the OP with great interest, already beguinning to rack my brains to come up with dozens of artists who had their best albums when aged over 30.
Then I read all the replies; I sort of lost heart. ![]() Enjoyed the humour and banter though, great stuff.

RE: No artist has produced their best work after 30
I know sorry about that... I sort of hijacked my own thread
![]() Anyway back to the OP.... I think often people when challenged with this question offer two generic answers - They quote an artist still making great records, but is I better than.... XYZ when they where 24 and just signed, probably not. Such and such an artist produced a great first album at 32, okay but nothing before then. I would say David Bowie / Peter Gabriel are good examples of the 1st scenario and maybe Elbow for the 2nd ? An rare exception would be Paul Weller. But it's amazing how well the suggestion pans out....

RE: No artist has produced their best work after 30
Elvis Costello (I think) did his best work in his 30's. King of America and Blood and Chocolate.
Bruce Stringsteen continued to produce excellent and I would argue best (Nebraska) in his 30's. Having said that I am not sure I am pointing out the exceptions rather than the rule. |

Have to say Im no fan of either artist, so can't comment in any great detail... Perhaps I'm mixing up commercial success with quality but both had big albums and singles success when they were in their 20's and less so in their latter years. Like I said I'm not a an of either, Bruce I have a blue collar but I won't bang on about it

RE: No artist has produced their best work after 30
Your question was best work, not best selling, so I answered on that basis. If you meant commercial success I would have said Gerry Haliwell!

Nice ![]() Joking apart it seems to really apply to modern music, rather than Classical, Jazz & Folk... By modern I assume you mean both Rock and Roll?
