Yes, I think you might be right. Thanks!

The review is up, but no mention of the Oppo 95. Have you purchased the 751?

If memory serves me, the August 2011 edition of What Hi-Fi did a comparison of the Oppo 95EU and the Cambridge Audio 751.

Another one that might cross your radar would be the Ayre unit.

KDS, LP-12/Radikal/Ekos 2/Akiva --> Uphorik/D --> stuff.

If you're talking about the Ayre DX-5, it doesn't have multi channel analogue audio output, only 2 channel.

RE: Cambridge Audio BD-751 good replacement for Uni 1.1?
I heard a 751 vs. a unidisk 2.1 recently. They had tonally different presentations - the 2.1 sounded leaner, and tended to emphasize the leading edge of the notes more. The 751 seemed to have a little less detail, but sounded tonally richer.

I preferred the 2.1 on some tracks, and the cambridge on others - the 751 was more forgiving of bright recordings. So, would the 1.1 sound much better? Maybe. Certainly the cambridge vs 2.1 wasn't a slam dunk, and I could see how people could prefer either.

In the overall scheme of things, the ds units sound clearly better than either to me. If you don't have one of those, that's what I'd go for first.

If you need a replacement for your 1.1 for use as a secondary source, then the cambridge is a great value, and has great video quality as well.

Best,
Jbc

Thanks for catching it.Smile Forgot about that...GRR.

EDIT: The Cambridge unit was reviewed by Paul Miller a while ago in Hi-Fi News, and I would hazard the opinion that the gentleman knows of what he speaks.

KDS, LP-12/Radikal/Ekos 2/Akiva --> Uphorik/D --> stuff.

Finally a review comparing the Oppo and Cambridge

http://hometheaterreview.com/cambridge-a...ed/?page=2

I think I'd call that a win for the Cambridge

Topica-Steve: Did you already have a chance to try the cambridge at home?

RE: Cambridge Audio BD-751 good replacement for Uni 1.1?
I think both the What Hi-Fi and HomeTheaterReview reviews said much of the same - the Oppo is leaner (bit more detailed in the mids and highs without being overtly bright) and the Cambridge is richer tonally, especially in the bass. The people at avforums.com disliked the remote from the Cambridge. I have the Oppo 95EU - the remote is OK but nothing like the remotes from an old Pioneer Kuro, which was metal and really classy. I don't find the sound lean at all - if anything, I think it suits the "newer" (i.e. Chakra-era amplifiers) Linn electronics very nicely. I'm still astonished at how good the music is through my Exotik+DA/D, Majik 5100/D and Anthony Gallos Adiva Ti with TR3 subwoofer. This will be my fourth Oppo player. I managed to brick my first Oppo DVD player while doing a firmware upgrade (not sure how, as I am always careful about such things!) but the other two players are still going strong.

THe review of the Oppo in HFN this month broadly agrees with the sonic descriptive above , but the Oppo wins out on sheer picture quality, which is supposedly SOA.
