I think John Treble has 2 routers - SpeedTouch, & Netgear. I believe he needs DHCP on the SpeedTouch to allocate an IP address to the Netgear router. The Netgear should then be configured as the DHCP server for a different network address range. There may be some auto-sensing, negotiation, configuration of the Netgear when it's first connected 'behind' the SpeedTouch, but that's usually pretty easily checked & reconfigured as preferred.

My ISP router runs a minimal wired network with 192.168.1.x addressing. My Netgear runs the home network, both wired & wireless, with 192.168.72.x addressing. Configured this way all my home network devices typically get an IP address within seconds...

Unless it's necessary, any wireless on John's SpeedTouch should be off so that only devices physically connected to the SpeedTouch get an address from that router. For trouble-shooting, & simplicity, the Netgear should be the only thing plugged into the SpeedTouch.

From quick research, it appears that the WAP200s don't have DHCP, & I don't think the devolo plugs do either, which only leaves laptop or PC that may be running an additional DHCP server, unless the SpeedTouch & Netgear are wired & configured incorrectly... I thought someone posted that they found their Mac could act as a DHCP server, so I'd start there & make sure the laptop does not have this enabled. (don't ask me how - I'm not an Apple guy)

It's very nice to know that so many people get excited by WAP's and Ip's and suchlike. I don't. I bought a hifi system and I expect to be able to 'Just Listen'. This setup doesn't allow me to do that, and there seems to me no-one, either at the dealer or at linn that gives a toss.

For people like me, who have an extensive CD collection, but have been conned into believing that streaming is a better way of accessing it than through a CD player, all this technical bullshit is just a distraction. I am not unable to understand it, I just can't be arsed. It is irrelevant bullshit, for someone who genuinely wants to 'Just Listen'

I agree. But the music is so much more enjoyable with my DS than with the cd player. So I don't have a choice.

Network stuff can be complicated, and you seem to have a more complex setup.

Has the dealer helped you with the original installation and has it ever worked flawlessly?

I don't think there is a problem with your HiFi stuff, I suspect it is your network setup like the others do.

Now you can argue as you did, don't care, everything is bullshit etc. But you are blaming the wrong party. If you had a faulty fuse in your house and your vac would blow it all the time, it doesn't help to blame the vac manufacturer but to fix the electricity problem.
Just my 2 cents...

John, I've only just seen this thread. I note that you are using a Netgear WGR614v10 wireless router. If I have read you correctly, you are finding that you have to reboot your DS every day. This may be due to a flaw in the Netgear firmware, which was discussed at length last year.

See This thread.

Posts 104 to 106 may be particularly relevant.

Basically, if your DS has been given a reserved IP address within the Netgear's Reservation Table, then a flaw in the Netgear firmware was compounded by (correct) changes made by Linn at one of the Davaar firmware releases. This meant that the DS's request to renew its IP address every 24 hours was being rejected by the Netgear and the DS would drop off the network until rebooted. Removing the address reservation for the DS cures this problem. Unfortunately, at the time, Linn specifically mentioned the Netgear 614 in documentation and recommended that IP addresses be reserved for the the DS. If whoever installed your Netgear has followed Linn guidance, then this may well be the cause of your problem.
