Twonky 6.0.38 on ReadyNAS Duo
I have upgraded Twonky on my ReadyNAS Duo from 5.1.4 to 6.0.38 using Super Poussin's customised file. Installation went well, but I don't seem to have Briain's custom trees. I cannot search by composer at all, either on it's own or within genre, for example. Can someone direct me to instructions for downloading and installing custom trees for the ReadyNAS Duo v1? I can only find them for QNAPs.

RE: Twonky 6.0.38 on ReadyNAS Duo
Hi
It's easy on a Duo; you can download them from the Qnap tree changing post in the DS section of this forum, then access the Twonky share on the Duo and dump them in the views folder. In a bit more detail, if you use \\hostname (in the Windows search field) you'll see the three Duo shares (backup, media and twonky) and in the Twonky one you'll see a folder called 'views'. Open that and deposit the unzipped tree files into there (to over-write the existing ones) and then do a Twonky database rebuild. Once that's done, the new menus will be there. Bri PS \\hostname is the name you have given to your NAS. You can find (and change) that in Frontview. If you've never changed it, it will be something like nas-0a-2c-bb where the last 6 characters are the MAC address of your NAS. I always name it something more memorable (I've one called Islay, one called Jura, one called Mull, my WDTV box is called Uist and my PC is called Scalpay); the key thing is to make them something you'll remember (so to access my NAS called Islay, I simply type \\Islay, or to dump a video on my WD box, I simply type \\Uist, so it saves having to set up all that Windows drive mapping stuff)

Once that is complete in the morning I'll slip the second disk back into the ReadyNAS (I took the advice you gave a while ago to remove the second disk before installing 6.0.38 just in case anything went wrong - I'm a belt and two pairs of braces man). I had already updated the name of my NAS, to the excitingly original ReadyNAS_Duo. I was a little bit disappointed in your choice - I'd have thought Macallan, Ardbeg, Talisker, etc. would have been more your style! Wammer. RE: Twonky 6.0.38 on ReadyNAS Duo
Well they're all places I've worked and all are short names which are swift to type (and easy to spell), whereas most of the cooler whisky names are far too long to type and far too easy to get wrong (specially after drinking the products). I guess I could have called one of them \\Caolila and another \\Ardbeg, but just imagine how long it would take to get \\bunnahabhain right when you'd had a few too many. Maybe I should call my main NAS \\booze (I'd always have a fighting chance of getting that one correct).
![]() PS If using Kinsky as a control point, before you browse your albums, remember to first access the Twonky config page and click on the 'media receivers' link, then select 'Linn Kinsky Desktop CP' against the MAC/IP of the device running Kinsky (do this after the Twonky database rebuild has finished). If using Songbook, Chorus, Bubble or PlugPlayer, you don't have to bother as Twonky will see these and set itself correctly automatically. |

I didn't know about changing the control point description in Twonky Config. Does that mean I should change my iPad and iPhone to Kinsky PDA? Wammer. Hi I sent them the PDA one to resize art to suit folks who were using the dreaded Windows Mobile 6 on the HP iPaq 214 PDA. It resizes art to 300 pixels so suit that screen and my hope was that it would take some of the strain off the WM6 and iPaq (and thus make it more robust when dealing with big art files). It was more of an experimental one to see how folks got on with it, but I've not heard from anyone whether I helps or not (I'll maybe ask them to remove it again as it probably causes more confusion than it does good). ![]() For the iPad and iPhone, you're best to use the Kinsky Desktop one which sends art at full resolution as these things can cope with it. The Kinsky Desktop, Asset, Bubble, Chorus and Songbook entries all set art to full resolution (so you can pick any of them and the effect will be the same). The reason there are several that do the same thing is that these control points identify themselves to Twonky and it sets itself automatically. The only ones that needs set manually are for devices running Kinsky (as Linn don't like the principle and won't enable it in Kinsky) and ones running Konductor (as that works in a different way to all the others and that feature can't be used). So basically, you can set them all to any of the ones I've listed above (other than Kinsky PDA) and you'll get ful resolution art. Bri |
