RE: hifi Racks
John G I remember before OSHA (occupational safety and health) regulations for confined spaces, the auto repair shops had pits with steps to walk down to get underneath the cars.
This might work, but I'm afraid WAF and a six foot deep hole could lead some undesired results. Anyone have a copy of Amazing Grace? I do wonder about Briain's approach to the matter. What I mean is that the support is secondary to what it sits on. Think hierarchy. I like my turntable at chest height for obvious reasons.

RE: hifi Racks
That's what I want for my speakers next place I live. They would be happy to share with the TT behind a concrete wall. I expect to go back to a purpose built room or possibly even an out building. Radiant heat and no refrigerator noise are high on the list too.
That being said it is still sometimes nice to have the music in a family area. Klimax DS/1/D, Klimax Kontrol/1/D, ATC SCM50SL AT, jRiver Media Center v17 ![]() Salty Dog system RenewDS, Karin, Klout, Tukans and of course jRiver. |

The main hi-fi is linked to this room on the main floor of the house.

RE: hifi Racks
I picked up my two Hutter racks, second hand, for £250 apiece. At that price, they'd be very cheap unicorns and mermaids....

Either way, as for the MDF, they even say it's MDF I'm afraid. http://www.hutter.co.at/ "The Hifi bottom panels consist of two layers: The upper layer consists of many layers of glued, very light sandwich material made of wood composite. The lower layer consists of heavy MDF material". Mind you there's nothing wrong with MDF. It's very useable, easy to machine and dirt cheap. The vast majority of speakers are MDF too (with a nice, dirt cheap wafer thin veneer to fool us). Note: Go to the Fostex site, they have .pdf plans for all of their drivers that you can email to a joinery shop for easy machining. (As well as MDF, the vast majority of speakers use rebadged Fostex drivers too). PS And by the way "The upper layer consists of many layers of glued, very light sandwich material made of wood composite." = MDF too. A totally shameless way of trying to make something jaw droppingly ordinary sound exotic and value for money. One born every minute. The audio equivalent of cowboy builders. £250 second hand and you're proud of it?! That's what's really bad. Status, pure and simple, all of you. PPS The really amazing thing is that people will read this totally unbiased factual account that cuts to the chase, take umbridge even though it's bang on and they know it, then jump in on the side of the manufacturer. -If component A doesn't deliver then remove it, don't sit it on a spike. -Which colour should I paint my small to medium room? Magnolia/Jasmine white/TusKan white? Please help me. I mean, I can't trust my eyes, I need yours. - You are the problem with audio and myth. The dealers plant the seed. You grow it. |
