What NAS bridge for Sneaky?
Hi
I have got a sneaky DS and want to connect my conventional 1TB HDD to my wireless router as it has all my music on it. Can anyone recommend me a bridge or network hub that would work...something cheap but effective would be good! an ebay special per chance. Setting up on a pc then leaving it to do it think would be totally fine |

Rather than a wireless bridge, you might want to look at a pair of powerline Ethernet adapters. 85Mbps ones will be fine for a DS setup. Plenty of units at around £20 each on the Bay.

It is set up under my stairs and has a plug type wireless lan gadget attached to it, along with another one of the plugs in my living room where the router is. I just need my Hard drive attached to the router so I can set up a network. I wasn't keen on muying a whole new NAS drive since there is nothing wrong with my trusty old TB drive. Was just wondering how to get it connected to the router. I have heard that the USB Nas dongles dont work with the sneaky as it needs the software for the dongle installed and since you cant do that with a sneaky im kind of stuck. |

RE: What NAS bridge for Sneaky?
You need something to run the UPnP server to actually send the music to the DS. Most people do this with a NAS, which has the storage within it, but you could also do it with a PC/laptop which has your 1Tb hard drive connected to it. If working on a PC I'd recommend downloading Asset UPnP server, which works very well for music.
Depending on your existing wifi router, it's possible that it may have a simple UPnP server in it so that you could connect the drive direct to a USB socket on it and share the music, but not many do, and if they do they tend to be poorly featured cut down versions (i.e. no album art, limited tree structures etc.) Hope that helps. Main System: Renew DS > Exotik+DA/D > A2200/D > 242s (mk2) & A3200/D > 106c, 104c's (using Linn Silvers & K400, on Hutter rack) Dining Room: Sneaky DS > Majik 109s (using "K200") Bedroom: Majik DS > Tivoli Radio Model 3 + Companion Speaker |

You want something like the Addonics USB adapter - I haven't used them, but I am led to believe that they work as promised - I haven't seen one working in a DS scenario though (how would you run Twonky on it etc.)?: http://www.addonics.com/products/nas30u2.php Technical Director, What You See And Hear Ltd., Beaconsfield Superior home cinema and sound |
