So it looks like uploading your music would be illegal, as Google would claim various rights as to what they can do with it. BIG BROTHER.

This is where modern encryption technology comes into its own. Google will have a hard time using your content if you encypt it. This is becoming more practical with high-speed processors and transparent security facilities like TrueCrypt.
