RE: KK, KDS and IR vs RS232
Hi Marcus,
Thanks for your reply. I have made some progress: I downloaded a small RE232 terminal app called Termite and was able to get it talking to the Uni very easily. It has an edit field where you can write/edit your command and an "enter" button that drops it into the session window. But it only worked by using a setting that appends a CR and LF to every string. I tried the syntax you suggested to tag the CR and LF to the command (\x0D\x0A) with the "append nothing" option checked, but this never would work. In any event, I don't think further work with Hyperterminal is going to help at this point, but thanks for the offer. Meanwhile I have written to GC to see what they suggest about the 7 vs 8 data bits so we'll see. I will let you know what they have to say. RE: KK, KDS and IR vs RS232
Glad you are making progress.
\x is used to denote that the next 2 characters will be hex. So different software packages may use different ways of actually entering that hex (and some software may not allow mixing ASCII and hex). As, in this case, we are just dealing with a carriage return followed by line feed, most terminal programs will deal with that without having to resort to entering \x0D etc. But if the GC can't handle 7 data bits, it will all be for naught. Does irule support any other devices that might? Technical Director, What You See And Hear Ltd., Beaconsfield Superior home cinema and sound |

RE: KK, KDS and IR vs RS232
Agreed. Any network gateway will work, and I know that one of their other smaller units is configurable with a 7 bit option, but it seems silly for the GC-100 to be so limited. Worst case I will have to get one of the other units and use it to feed the Linn chain. One thing I will experiment with is the RS232 Out port on the KK to see if it also functions as an In port, though the Linn docs say it won't. The other possibility is to use the second port on the KDS as an In. Since Linn clearly states that the KDS is NOT controllable via RS232, this may work as a pass-through. If neither option works, I don't see how DS lives happily in an RS232-controlled system. We'll see.
